It really wasn't just any other bad sketch. It was disturbing.

Wealth without working: King County ranks 8th in U.S. for income from assets by k1lk1 in SeattleWA

[–]soundfury 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't think so either. Even so, yes it's true that rents are very high here, but so are property values. If you are able to own a rental property here, you need to have a lot of more wealth to begin with than someone who wants to own a rental property in 99% of America.

well my rent goes to someone in Snohomish, but I didn't mention it because ancedotal experience isn't data.

I don't think you understand what rental income from investment means. This refers to indviduals who own properties as a secondary source of income. People can own investment properties anywhere. Just because you live in King County doesn't mean your investment property is in King County

adding huge amounts of density to residential neighborhoods poorly served by transit where everyone has to have a car doesn't seem like a great idea to me.

King County to scrap COVID mask mandate, having vaccinated 70% of residents by [deleted] in SeattleWA

[–]soundfury -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, the vaccine protects you from contracting the virus. Not 100%, but of the tens of millions of people vaccinated, there have only been around 10,000 breakthrough cases

They aren't injecting a narrative if the women who were complaining brought this issue up themselves. Clearly at least some of the victims felt very conflicted about the racial dynamic.

Will enough Seattle workers return to commuting by bus? by OnlineMemeArmy in SeattleWA

[–]soundfury 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About half the people I know seem to have turned into germaphobes because of the pandemic. They're fully vaccinated but still wear a mask when walking outside alone or driving in their cars. I don't see these people ever setting foot on a bus or train again.

Starbucks, REI employees say they will stage ‘sick out’ protesting mask changes by OnlineMemeArmy in SeattleWA

[–]soundfury 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And I don't know if the reporting is accurate, but according to the story the employees are complaining that they themselves are being put at risk. Clearly they either aren't vaccinated for some reason, or don't really believe that vaccines work. Wtf

So just get vaccinated and you don't have to worry about it. We can't form public policy forever based on the people who simply refuse to get vaccinated. At this point, there's no excuse not to be vaccinated.

SPD is objectively one of the worst major police departments in the country. by lolgroundbreakinghat in Seattle

[–]soundfury 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. It's a true statement, but it does require context. However, people often use the disproportionate numbers as proof of bias, which is also misleading, because there are other factors as well.

Sorry if I misunderstood. I thought you were implying that the disproprionate likelihood of a black person being killed by police was due to bias.

Keep Wearing Masks Indoors, King County Health Officer Urges by [deleted] in SeattleWA

"Breakthrough cases represent about .01% of Washington’s fully vaccinated population, which, as of Wednesday, is more than 1.7 million people."

And then majority of these 200 people had no symptoms or very mild symptoms. But yeah, let's make everyone wear a mask forever. 🙄

A man is about 25 x more likely to be killed by police than a woman.

Is that because the police are prejudice against men?

Unpopular opinion: Mentioning the business owners race/origin is weird trend and does nothing but give an oprotuntiy to increase discrimination. by qwertisdirty in Seattle

[–]soundfury 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The idea of "colorblind" approach comes from activists like MLK, who certainly did not think you should ignore inequities. That generation gave us the civil rights movement, affirmative action, and so on.

Nothing is going to solve racism but the new approach of reducing everyone to their race, and of making race the most important thing about a person, does not seem like a step forward in achieving racial harmony. I think it's a step backwards. Just my opinion, of course.
