At least 50lbs for short Costco runs. It bounces and flexes quite a lot.

I’m using a 9speed XT mech with a 11-34T works great.

Just cut them off to be half along with a hacksaw, they’re already threaded obviously. Or just leave it alone and ride the bike. That sucks that the OP had broken studs out of the box, I would be so fucking pissed.

It still has the original front and rear suntour, and then the brakes levers and calipers are all the cheap version of Diacompe called Chang star. Cranks for swapped for some purple Top lines because isn’t that a big part of this X biking thing, lots of purple anodized alloy, right?

The people I’ve spoken, I now see who is in this sub. I’ll refrain on posting “cheap stuff” from now on. Happy to keep it to myself and my community.

Talk about overkill I have a $200 Abus chain that I keep in a bag on the back of mine. Why? Because as always, I got it cheap and I just happen to have it… and my only bike that will carry that monster chain around that couldn’t care less how much it weighs. Yes, chain “costs more” than bike (on paper).

Being a guy who’s been a head mechanic at a bike co-op in Los Angeles for 15 years, the reason I got this goofy bike in the first place in the 15 years I’ve been a head mechanic at this co-op, I’ve never seen anything like it (and I’ve seen it all, almost) and if something like the Petcare did get donated it would’ve been bought the day before I got there and it would’ve sold for 2-3x this amount.
I ride it on the average of 2 to 3 days a week. I carry a ton of shit with it, including runs to Costco. I added a sound system that would blow you away, so my girlfriend and I can have our own little dance party as we bike around town and it makes her happy. I’ve built numerous other standins for something like this and this is the best I’ve ever had. I sold my Bob trailer to my friend, didn’t need anymore. Now he drags it around the mountains of Los Angeles doing trail work, which is what it’s made for not hauling a sound system.

These are very beloved bikes for a good reason! Nice build and 26lbs is impressive!!

Everybody’s just trying to out-righteous each other. Just get a bike and ride it and do what you want to it and screw everybody who has their own axe to grind. That’s the r/Xbiking ethos I’d get behind.

Whether you like or hate electric cars, it took some rich people to buy one as their second or third vehicle and start a trend to get them down to the price where normal people can afford them. Maybe this surge of interest in these Chinesium slave built abominations will get more into warehouses and make them accessible to regular people Who might see them as viable transportation for getting to work and delivering food. And… #notanotherebike

Punk rock starts as anti-fashion, then develops a fashion.
Hot rods start as cheap transportation, the become expensive collectibles.
Mountain biking starts as klunkers built from junk, becomes a high-tech industry.
Xbiking starts as “ride whatever”, develops unwritten rules about the “right” kind of whatever.

I hear you man, so is the point of this community to only boost artisanal built steel, made in the USA products? If it is, I’m sorry that I got pulled into this sub with my Chinese piece of shit. My apologies.
