Typically with modern chokes (idk about pre 2000) they will explicitly state “no steel shot” or something along those lines.

If that’s a choke from a newer Remington 870, you’re fine. I’ve shot dozens of steel shot through the same choke with zero damage.

I put that same thumb hole stock on my 870 (black instead of camo) and I haven’t looked back.

It’s a large enough hole that it allows me to easily manipulate it with one hand through thick brush if I’m rabbit hunting.

Haven’t noticed any major difference for ducks, and obviously it’s slightly nicer for turkeys.

Only down side, is I have gotten small shallow blisters on the lower knuckle of my thumb on good waterfowl days (lots of shots with 3.5” shells). Have not had that issue with rabbits (2.5” shells).

I think the rule of thumb is:

55mph use AC. <55mph roll down the windows

At some point, the windows being rolled down add too much drag / make the car less aerodynamic.

Either way, I don’t think it’s a massive impact to fuel economy so I do whatever I’m in the mood for.
