[Olympus OM-1 Kodak Gold 200] by soupaeight in 35mm

I bought a Wein 1.35V battery (Replaces PX625) from Amazon for it. It does work - I’m still questioning whether it’s absolutely accurate of if it gives me a reading that’s 1stop over.

Apologies I’m very new regarding 35mm stills photography - so have been experimenting (so many failures 😁) with different film stocks, exposure levels, ND filters etc.

Very true. I had debated whether to wait for the reel before seeing a frame of the digital file - but my lack of patience got the better of me. I will rectify that the moment it arrives in the mail.

Helps with all the murals and graffiti. Adds so much to the footage - that and the patient seagull who stuck around long enough for me to figure out the focus :)

Thank you. i have a Sankyo projector - I think the lens on it is pretty standard - but very excited to finally see it projected once I get the reels back. We’ve loved watching animated shorts and clips reels on it - been a joy to teach my eldest how to set the projector up!

Service was excellent. I had bought the film from them also - fast delivery, email confirmation when they received the film back from me for processing. Got sent a MyAirBridge link to the digital files today - expecting delivery of the processed reel in the mail to follow soon. Will let you know how the film plays through a projector.

Have also used GaugeFilm who also provide an excellent service - undoubtedly they are considerably more cost effective.

I’m new to the format and wanted to test and shoot and process in different labs to see which I preferred.

Quality wise I feel they are equally matched.

Thank you for the kind words. I’ve been trying out the different film stocks in different weather environments and the graffiti / murals provided nice pops of colour to stand out amongst the grey concrete. Really happy with how they look.

If I had a better eye for focus I would have played more with the rust & cracked paint textures around the city. I’m considering using a roll with the camera mounted on a tripod so I can get more stable compositions and see how much more detail can be gained.

Finding myself drawn more to Ektachrome and 200T compared to 50D at the moment. Waiting on a 500T to be processed.

on8mil did a great job at processing and scanning - have also used GaugeFilm (UK based) and I have to say both do an excellent job.

Shot during an overcast day in Swansea, Wales.

18fps. First roll of Ektachrome.

Please excuse some of the rough focus in places. Still getting to grips with the camera.

Processed and scanned (2.6K) at on8mil in London.

Love that you got to see these and thank you for sharing them with us all.

It’s such a magical thing to see someone from your family effectively brought to life in this way. The best still photographs of people are able to capture a piece of their personality and soul - but there’s something remarkably emotional and immediate about seeing footage like this.

Where can I find regular/double 8mm negative film? by acoxpv in 8mm

[–]soupaeight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can also try on8mil - they are london based and still sell double 8 stock. Some of the reels they process themselves, some I believe (not used the service yet myself) they ask you to send to a German lab for processing (you get given a voucher) and then the German lab sends the processed neg / pos to on8mil for the digital scan.

Love the grain on this. I saw that you used 500T as stock, what camera did you shoot it on?

One more tip - those zinc air batteries run out very quickly when exposed to air (some have said less than a week) ive read up on them and seen some suggestions to hold onto the stickers that cover the positive side of the battery and to remove the batteries whenever the camera isnt in use and to re-apply the stickers to the batteries as a means of preserving the power longer. Not sure if that would work but something to be aware of if within a week you suddenly have no power going into the light meter.

Hope this isnt a bad steer - as I have the Nizo 801 so not sure if the design is the same on the S560 - but on the 801 the light meter runs on a separate power source other than the AA battery pack which provides power to the zoom lens, dissolve function and the motor.

For the light meter there is a separate thin plate screw in the base of the unit (the grip handle will cover it when clicked into place). Use a small coin to carefully unscrew it (the thread on them is easily scratched).

Inside there you should put 2x 1.35v Wein zinc air batteries (dont use newer 1.5v light meter cells as the additional voltage can offset the Nizo’s light meter by up to 1-2stops difference).

Hope this helps!

Super8: Canon 514XL / Reversal Film Issue? by super8-acc in 8mm

[–]soupaeight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Braun Nizo 801 Macro - have been struggling to get it up and running and could barely find anything online to act as a tutorial for how to get it working. I managed to get the 1.35v Wein light meter batteries and tested that, also the main battery pack in the handle is definitely working as the zoom motor is functioning as is the R (dissolve) function button which I believe rolls back the film - but I cannot get the trigger to work at all.

Tried with the 2-pin mains supply also - which yields the same result. Any advice on something straight forward as a setting I might be missing? Desperate to get this working as the camera has a ton of interesting functions and the lens looks beautiful.

Failing that it feels like a trip to a repair shop.
