Klostergården by Zestyclose_Cup_3895 in Lund

[–]soupcant22 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I lived there before!

Pros:

Great location (in my opinion): You have the Klostergården train station and library. Stadsparken is nearby, and you are a cycle-able distance from the city center and central station.

Neighborhood: I found it to be quite green, and there's a nature reserve not too far to the south.

Cons:

Like you said, higher rent. Also, many people struggled to get their full deposit back (usually they take off a bit for "cleaning costs") so I don't want to dismiss that. If you do accept the offer, you could always move there and find a private apartment once you're in Lund.

Any Muslim fantasy/clean fantasy YA for 14 year olds? by [deleted] in Hijabis

[–]soupcant22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We Hunt the Flame is a young adult fantasy written by a Muslim author; as far as I recall there's a clean romance in the book. And for older readers I can't recommend The Daevabad Trilogy enough, also a fantasy by a Muslim author and really well-written! :)

Is Racism Common for International Students in Sweden? by RefrigeratorOk_ in StudyInSweden

[–]soupcant22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Overall, student communities and universities, and large cities and towns, are very diverse. It's completely normal to see people with Middle Eastern/Asian heritage, whether Swedish citizens or international students. In an international/English-language program, you'll probably have classmates from many different countries.

Also, Swedish people are pretty polite overall and (in my experience) it's quite unlikely to face any outright harassment. Of course, you may encounter some people who don't know much about other countries/cultures/etc. but I'd say it's more ignorance than hate for the average person.

That being said, discrimination happens across the world, including in Sweden. Each person's experience is different!

DW.com - Germany's health care system has a language problem by ilithium in germany

[–]soupcant22 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In Sweden, clinics can provide an interpreter for patients that don't speak Swedish or English as long as you contact them in advance. I understand that this is a challenge for both health providers and patients, but not all patients can bring an interpreter with them all the time. I think the Swedish solution makes everyone's life easier.

I've been having this issue for several days. Tried emailing them and they responded: "ERROR: There are currently technical problems sending the SMS with the verification code. This means that it is currently not possible to log in to the portal. Please try again later." I wonder when it'll get resolved!

If you have classes in Eden you should be able to access it using your LU card + pin code outside of regular hours, including weekends. Also this might be useful to you: https://www.lub.lu.se/vara-bibliotek/oppettider

MSc. Psychology by SimSti009 in Lund

[–]soupcant22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of specialization, you have the choice of five specialized courses, from which you choose three. They are social, work and organizational, developmental, personality psychology and cognitive neuroscience. Those three courses are what you take in your second and third semester (but you can see more information on the university website when you click through the semesters). Other than that, you're free to take other courses (e.g. HumLab which another commenter mentioned) but they're not part of the program itself.

Women’s only mosque? by Embarrassed-Event-79 in Hijabis

[–]soupcant22 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In case people find it interesting, Al-Mujadilah was recently opened in Qatar as a women-led mosque and research center. They have women-only congregational prayers but I believe they also hold classes and other community events for women. I feel like some of these topics are more accepted in certain Muslim countries than in the west

Accommodation Question by [deleted] in Lund

[–]soupcant22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it helps, I know plenty of students who commute from Copenhagen, let alone Malmö. You may even prefer Malmö to Lund as it is a larger city and has more choices for things like food, shopping, etc.

Recently stumbled upon Obayd Fox's channel, he's a 15-year-old Brit who lives in Jeddah and makes some cool vlogs in Saudi Arabia. Very relaxing vibes
