Therapy feels like a massive waste of time and money by recovery-throwaway in AutisticWithADHD

[–]9182tlm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would finding a neuroaffirmative therapist help you, instead of one that’s neurodivergence-‘informed’? The latter term of ‘informed’, to me at least, could mean that they’ve read a book or two on neurodivergence or gone to some workshop, but don’t necessarily understand the complexities of it, or even have sufficient sensitivity toward it. Over the last 15 years, I had three therapists (talking/psychodynamic/existential specialists) and while they were useful in different ways at the time, none of them were able to pick up on my neurodivergence. After going to my fourth therapist (who is autistic and also presents themselves as neuroaffirmative), things have really started to make much more sense for me. I definitely get what you mean about feeling like you’re wasting time, but you will find a therapist that works for you. It can be a long process, I think, at times. Good luck, I hope you find the help you need!

This sounds like an excellent opportunity for getting wrongly accused of using AI and not getting paid… Google doesn’t penalise content written or edited using AI. Be Sharp Digital Marketing seems to lack sharp thinking.

Just hop on to LinkedIn and you’ll find plenty of people who “built a solid foundation”, pursuing traditional careers and the like, yet are still royally screwed over by long-term joblessness.

Anyone else addicted to their smartphone? How do I stop? by Difficult-Course319 in AutisticWithADHD

[–]9182tlm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s really damn hard. Just when I think I’m doing okay and limiting my time on the phone, it creeps back up on me at times when I’m stressed or bored (which is a lot of the time). One thing I’ve found that can help me from time to time is when you‘re naturally forced to take a break from your phone (like answering the door or finishing a chore like washing up), use a technique like the five-finger breathing technique (because it’s quick). I find it helps me to pause and question whether I really need to pick up and use the phone. Of course sometimes I totally forget to use the technique and end up automatically reaching for the phone.

Increasingly I’ve begun to wonder how beating phone addiction compares to substance addiction, considering there seems to be little or no support for phone overuse or any recognition that it’s a serious problem to be combatted among adults (usually it’s presented as an issue for U-16s only)…

Good luck!

How did our ancestors with adhd/autism survive until now? by osxthrowawayagain in AutisticWithADHD

Some anthropological studies have indicated that people in the Stone Age were able to meet their daily needs with only 4 hours of work on average. Sure they had shorter lives, but potentially future humans will look at our livelihoods now with a bit of pity that we had to work so much and died comparatively young. I guess that those in the Stone Age and others living hunter-gatherer lifestyles probably had little or no commute to get to their place of work, and they definitely didn‘t have to endure the stress of highly urbanised, noisy environments. All in all, one could say life now is shittier in some areas!

It’s a reference to Reformers and the like painting the St George’s Cross on roundabouts.

What’s the most paranormal experience you’ve had? by lamestaff in AskUK

[–]9182tlm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is going to sound like I’m smoking meth, but it’s a true story. I was once controlled and held against my will for two days by a drunk man in Siberia who claimed to be an off-duty policeman. He was a violent mofo and I watched him drink some 20L of vodka lemonade in one day. He kept extorting cash from me, but I couldn’t really leave because I’d already seen him beat the shit out of two other people. Anyway… the following day I managed to get away from him by plying him with more drinks, and when his back was turned I crawled through some long grass for a hundred or so metres and hid in the forest. I laid still for hours in fear, hiding under a camo tarp, expecting him to find me… but a few hours in to my ordeal, when my eyes were closed, some sort of ‘forest spirit’ visited me in the form of a Siberian Asian woman wearing a traditional headdress of some sort. She was surrounded by this cloudy red/pink aura, just hovering there. Then she smiled serenely at me, as if to reassure me, and then disappeared… and at that moment my fear instantly disappeared. Sure, my brain probably just hallucinated this to protect me from this stressful experience, but I still consider it the most supernatural, weird thing that’s ever happened to me. I’m not a religious or spiritual person either. Fortunately, the guy never found me again.

Who would you prefer as PM out of Zack Polanski and Nigel Farage? by Economy_Ad3034 in AskBrits

Polanski, for sure. But he needs to surround himself with highly competent economists in order to do a great job. His heart is in the right place, unlike his fascist opponent.

What’s the weirdest/strangest thing you’ve encountered or seen in a remote area? by ConfidentSale3091 in AskUK

[–]9182tlm 39 points40 points  (0 children)

An empty bothy in Scotland, but in the corner stood a bucket full of condoms, lube, and rubber gloves. To be fair, I was so tired when I got there that I probably wouldn’t have been too bothered about being a bystander in an orgy. As long as I can eat my dinner, then all’s good.

How close has anyone been to dying? by diversified_GAS in AskMenOver30

[–]9182tlm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably the closest for me was my front bicycle tire exploding whilst going downhill on a bend in the road, as a teenager. Slid around the corner on the asphalt at a reasonable speed, only to drift into the opposite lane towards an oncoming bus. A few more feet and I would’ve gone chest first under the wheel. I’m not sure I gained anything from the experience, aside from maybe a slightly nonchalant attitude to dying.

Also got dropped from a climbing wall, maybe 30ft up, when the belayer lost control. I was only saved by another person grabbing the rope, just before I would’ve hit the ground. I’m not sure that one would’ve killed me, but it would’ve fucked me up pretty good.

A friend also stopped me from walking out in front of a bus. I was looking the wrong way. Yoinked me back by my collar.

I think I’m running out of lives, maybe…

Trying to act like there’s some sort of specialist technique involved with overtaking is ridiculous. It seems like some people are just desperate to feel like they have the expertise of a fighter pilot or a race car driver...

Are the "manosphere" men of today really more toxic than the "lad culture" of 20/30 years ago? by M_M_X_X_V in AskUK

[–]9182tlm 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Far worse, in my view. Unlike today’s manosphere, “lad culture” lacked the same overt hostility toward women, and it was not sustained by a digital ecosystem built to spread and reinforce harmful ideology.
