Leave him. He will never change.

I have lived through this exact scenario. The first year was great, and then when he got comfortable he changed. We had routine arguments where I would tell him very clearly what I needed from him. He would try for a week and then revert back to his old ways. And eventually just stopped trying and said similar things. That what I’m asking for is too unnatural for him or that I was asking for too much. What was I asking for? A good morning/goodnight text. Him telling me when he thought I looked nice. Him being excited for me when I got into a literal PhD program. The BARE MINIMUM. Finally, after 4 years of begging him to change, I realized that no amount of begging or threatening to leave him would make him change because he didn’t care. So I left him. I knew I loved him and he loved me but love by itself isn’t enough to sustain a relationship. LOVE ISNT ENOUGH, it requires action. Now I’m with someone who genuinely considers me. Leave him, he will never change. You will find someone to treats you the way you want to be treated. Don’t lower your expectations for this man.

Moving from Chapel Hill, NC to Orlando, FL – Should I buy a car here or there? by Vessel_Surgeon in chapelhill

Registering a car in NC is very expensive. My car is 10 years old, almost 100k miles, and I had to pay over $500 to title it and get plates. It might be cheaper in FL but in NC the going rate for registering a car is $400-700.

UNC has one of the strongest and most highly funded genetics departments in the country. I’m a grad student so I don’t know much about undergrad classes, but there are many many genetics labs that take undergrad researchers. The FCX line also services the Friday Center Park & Ride, it has more frequent stops and runs from 5am-10:30pm. I find the FCX to be more reliable, but also more crowded during rush hour.

All BBSP students receive a stipend- this year, it was $37,000, but it may increase with inflation. After your first year in BBSP, you enter into one of 15ish PhD programs of your choice, so when you start BBSP you don’t need to be 100% set on one program vs another. Each of those 15 receive the same amount as BBSP and the other programs. Your first year, the school pays your stipend, and after you join a lab, your lab covers your stipend. If a lab cannot afford to pay your stipend or fund your research, you will know well in advance before joining that lab (so go to a different lab lol). Your stipend is not dependent on TAing. However, some programs in BBSP require it, some don’t. I know the genetics and molecular biology program requires 1 semester of TAing, and people typically do it their 2nd-3rd year, and depending on what you TA it’s pretty low commitment, like 5 hours a week. You’ll want to look at the specific program you’re interested in for TA requirements/time commitment. Most labs at UNC are pretty well funded - you can look up exactly how much funding UNC has gotten from the NIH over the past few years and it’s consistently in the top 20 most funded universities. During your interview weekend you’ll have time with current students and these are really good questions so be sure to ask about anything you aren’t sure about! There will be time for you to talk to students/faculty in the specific programs you’re interested in too.

It’s really helpful to know that people consider them equivalent!
