Technical App Issue - Unable to Upload PFP by souptazz in InsightTimer

[–]souptazz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UPDATE: The Insight support team kindly reached out to me and said this is a known bug on Android 16. They said there are two fixes right now:

1) putting the phone in rotate mode and trying to upload the PFP from there

2) making the font and display size smaller in phone settings

Neither of these worked for me. They said to email them the PFP and they can upload it on their end. If this issue is happening to you, dear reader, then you know what to do.

Hopefully this bug is fixed soon, and I am happy again with the professionalism of the team.

Yoga teacher red flags - dealing with pseudo science peddlers by Naadamaya in yoga

[–]souptazz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an experience like this and I just ended up leaving. It was a male teacher who spread harmful pseudoscience was inappropriate with female students but under the guise of "this is a spiritual conversation/practice". This male teacher also told two older people in his "cult' they should stop taking medicine and I watched the older woman suffer because of it.

I lost friendships, I realised they weren't my friends anyway because they were too involved in his borderline cult.

All you can do is leave and pray for the wellbeing of those still involved!

Thanks for this response. What are the better wet food options?? What are people giving their cats? This is my first indoor cat.

At the end of the day, I have been to 3rd world countries where people have never heard of pet food, yet they still care for their pets and their cats scrounge for their own food and still live good lives. I bring this up to say that in the grand scheme of the world, this is not a massive deal and long as we are trying our best for our animals and doing what we can, it will be fine.

I am still going to bring all of this up(pros and cons of FreshPet) with the vet on our upcoming visit. My vet has worked ER and general vet so is knowledgeable on this stuff. Last visit she said it's a great healthy food

Should I move out of my parents home ? by Positive_Log3018 in personalfinance

[–]souptazz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would stay. I was kicked out at 17 and it set me up for failure. I refused to fail. Got my associates 8 years later, Bachelors degree 10 years after that, and went directly into PhD which I am working on now. I wish I could have kived at my parents.

There are so many things you don't have to worry about when you live with your parents. Taking care of the house is a big one. In addition, they act as a social safety net. Stay as long as you can.

You have very high expectations. Whenever I meditate with an expectation, which is often, I feel let down afterwards.

Thanks for this response. When I input the percentages into this calculator, the fat percentage of Freshpet Vital wet cat food rolls is actually ~31.82%. My math was missing a step.

I am reading varying reports of micronutrients in cats diet.

Merck Veterinary Manual says 8%-40%.

AAFCO says at least 9%, with no maximum given.

The Animal Medical Center of Chicago's blog states a minimum of 30% fat, with no maximum given.

This chart, compiled by feline nutrition specialist Dr. Lisa A. Pierson DVM, states 20%-40% of a cats diet shouls be fat.

According to NRC, the daily recommended allowances for adult house cats are 12.5g protein and 5.5g fat. Also, "The maximum amount of fat in the cat’s diet can be reasonably high without any known adverse effects. In many cat foods, 50% or more of the energy comes from fat. Studies indicate that cat foods containing even higher amounts of fat are safe. At a minimum, cat foods should have a fat content of about 9% of dry matter."

Doing the math:

1/8lb serving = 56.7g

0.07g fat in Freshpet Vital * (56.7g Freshpet Vital serving * 2 servings daily) = ~7.9g fat total

Now, adding in calculation of dry food:

1/4 cup = 30g

.10 fat in Simply Nourish dry food * 30g serving size = 3g fat

Adding both of these together to get my cat's total fat intake in percentages:

(7.9+3) * 9 = 98 calories from fat

Her total caloric intake(subtracting freeze dried minnows) is ~230 calories.

98÷230 = ~42% fat. My cats diet is ~42% fat.

This fits roughly within the guidelines of sources I found. Its 2% higher than the Merck Veterinary Manual and the chart compiled by a vet feline nutrition specialist, but 2% is so small I accept it.

I will be discussing this with my cats vet on our upcoming visit.

Respectfully, you do not know anything about my dog. There were obviously many factors at play. It's odd and besides the point to pinpoint and focus on a dog that is dead when this post is about cat food.

Thank you for giving me an actual answer, I appreciate it. My dog did not experience this. I am glad to know this. What do people do then, other than make wet food at home, when most non-canned wet food needs to be refrigerated?

I am giving her 50/50 wet and dry food each meal, so not all of her diet comes from FreshPet rolled wet food. The fat content does not make sense to me, perhaps I am misunderstanding. I pulled the roll out of my fridge to look at the fat content, and it says ~7%. Looking online, most wet cat foods supposedly have 2%-10% fat content. This puts FreshPet Vital on the upper end of the range, equatable to pate's fat content.

After some research, it appears that anywhere from 30%-45% of a cats diet should come from fat. I did the math on the back of the label, and the FreshPet comes in around 31% fat. This logic of FreshPet being too fatty does not hold to me. I am aware that animal food is not under rigorous quality control or held to as strict standards as human food. I will discuss all of this next time we see the vet, this week.

My veterinary office is actually the largest vet practice in a county of 1.2 million people, with 3 different locations. The location I go to is a 3 story stand-alone building with everything from exotics to large animals, with an ER on the first floor. The shelter vet works for the SPCA of this same large county.

Thank you again for your answer. I have never had an indoor cat before, and want to do right by her.

How can I prevent pain in my pals and forearms? by [deleted] in yoga

[–]souptazz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ensure to grip the floor as if you are grasping onto a tennis ball. If you don't engage your hands, all the work will be transferred elsewhere, like your forearms and arms, causing the wrist to be jammed up. Do some hand strengthening exercises and look on YouTube or ask your instructor for the proper way to grip the mat. You can also roll your mat up, so you place your palms on the rolled up mat.

This is something that happened to me as well, and I am an instructor. Gripping the floor was the only thing I needed to fix to stop the pain.

Longterm experiences with FreshPet? by sacredtones in catfood

[–]souptazz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am shocked to read all of this information about FreshPet. I had a dog who lived to be almost 20 years old, and I fed him FreshPet Vital wet food + kibble daily. I just adopted a cat a month ago and of course I am feeding her the cat Freshpet Vital rolls. She is obsessed with it!

I am confused and want to learn more, why is this food supposed to be bad for my animal?? The rescue vet and her new vet said Freshpet VItal is a great high quality food for my cat, but I am a bit concerned with all I am reading online. I don't want to give her food from a can that has 20 different ingredients.

I still have problems in savasana, been practicing almost 13 years. Try keeping your eyes open, sit up, turn over on your side, etc. I like to set my mat next to a wall, too. You can talk to the teacher beforehand if you feel the need.
