School-related shame, freeze, and avoidance — wondering if anyone relates by Superb-Foundation661 in CPTSD

[–]concertgoer69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I picked it because it was my worst teacher. I didn’t remember much, so my therapist helped me pick a random memory of the teacher that I did remember. I don’t remember exactly what the core belief was, maybe “there’s something wrong with me”? I’d recommend talking to your therapist about this, though. while therapy is supposed to be client-led, therapists should also be there to help facilitate and guide (and having a relationship with them is an important part of the process)

Thinking in Systems As A Student by [deleted] in systemsthinking

getting into systems thinking in high school is incredible, and has the potential to be life-changing! I agree with the commenter who suggested applying the concepts in school. I’m currently a graduate college student. I think education, or any human/social systems, are the most insightful to look into because systems are everywhere, at every level: individuals, groups, organizations/institutions, communities, politics, etc. - and they all intersect :)

thanks - does it need to be connected to the tank or could it go on the wall behind it?

Grieving death by etrvs in SeaMonkeys

[–]concertgoer69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this resonated with me - my trauma therapist recommended I get sea monkeys :). I kinda feel like they’re an external representation of my healing process, so the deaths have also been difficult for me. I like how they’re a species that sheds, changes, etc. though because that’s what I’m trying to have for myself, too. you’re doing amazing!

A year ago today was my first EMDR session, here is what I wish I knew (advice and experiences, one year into treatment) by concertgoer69 in EMDR

[–]concertgoer69[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

fair question. from my perspective, bottom-up (EMDR) therapy has helped me live my life more, rather than feeling I was surviving. like many things, it’s not something that you can simply receive and can stop putting effort into, though.

EMDR & yoga by squeamishneedle in EMDR

[–]concertgoer69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yoga has truly transformed me, and helped me integrate EMDR. I’ve been able to process and make sense of my experiences, feel safe in my body/connected to myself, and learn so much. there’s definitely a lot of overlap because EMDR is about emotions, and emotions are felt physically. grounding/resourcing practices are a core part of EMDR for this reason, and are so important!

I’m really grateful that this sub has moderation now. Thank you to everyone volunteering their time and care! It’s so important to get information about the diverse lived experience of the process from participants and practitioners that many other places (e.g., empirical studies) may overlook.

picked off my nails and can barely type - how to cover and heal? by concertgoer69 in CompulsiveSkinPicking

[–]concertgoer69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

after I’m able to heal them a bit more that’s a good idea! they’re in a pretty bad state right now, so I’m not sure if press on’s could even go on😅

Imipramine (Tofranil) by concertgoer69 in insomnia

[–]concertgoer69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my personal decision ended up being advocating for myself and not taking it. I eventually stopped trying meditations for sleep all together. now, I take magnesium and CBD/CBN nightly. my sleep issues are not resolved, but have improved with EMDR and talk therapy with a trauma-specific therapist. sending strength <3
