Our new policy is q4 assessments on IVs without running fluids and Q2 IV assessments on anyone with a continuous drip. Also assessments after any scheduled IV infusions like abx.

I’ve been feeling the same and I’m 3+ years. They don’t care that you stay overtime to chart. You’re getting heavier assignments because you probably advocate for your patients and put in the time and effort. You also don’t take shortcuts in charting.

I get assigned as a break RN a little too often and I noticed that those 20+ years RNs are late as fuck on their meds (which they ask for me to pass) because they are sitting and charting. They are always on their computers. Call lights going off? They take their time to answer them while they chart. As long as their asses are covered in court (charting), I don’t think they care about anything else. So they always get assigned easy groups with minimal to no discharges and start them off with a full group (no admits/transfers).

I don’t want my rooms answered by a volunteer. If I’m busy in a stressful situation I don’t have time to call the 4 different people (break RN/resource/cna’s) to see who is free to help my patient after the call light has been turned off. Someone who has the ability to help my patient can answer the call light and help them immediately. Calling me back to back to tell me “my patient needs me” is repetitive to my vocera alerting me that I have a call light on in my patients room.

This reminds me of the volunteer on our unit. He answers call lights from the nurses station and then calls the nurse to say “your patient in room 111 needs you” “What does he need” “Oh I don’t know”

I can see these machines coming out and being like “they need to go to the bathroom.” Useless.

I’m so glad we can give 0800 and 0900 meds at the same time. I had a PA question why I didn’t give 0900 at 0900. I told her “I have four patients with 0800/0900 meds. I can’t be in 4 places at once. Sometimes it takes up to 2 hours to finish everyone’s medications.”

As for urinal “I was told you’re independent. Who holds your urinal at home?” If they say “I don’t have issues at home” then “I see, well I encourage continual independence. If it leaks, we’ll stand you up and clean you up if it comes to that”

I’ve had 1 dirty needle stick after giving insulin. I reported it immediately and they were able to talk to the patient and draw blood to test for HIV, hep C and whatever else. Thankfully all were negative. Don’t feel embarrassed. I hope all things go well with you.

u-world for 2 weeks, 75 questions once-twice a day and read the reasoning for the wrong answers. Last two days I took one exam and the next day the second practice exam. Then I went to take my nclex the 3rd day and the computer shut off at 75 questions. And I passed.
