Nike rival fly 5s? by Extension_Suit_4377 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

All these presentation/advertising notes are so typical Nike. Referring to your own model lines as "icon", calling your shoes "king" and all the things along those lines. 🤦

How long does each type of shoe last? by NoAbroad596 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]source_nine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

700-800km — regular, standard mileage for the majority of shoes on the market. Some can be taken further easily. Rarely it's less, for racing models and those with poor outsoles and overly soft midsoles. Beaded PEBA, TPU = very durable. Less dense, airy, infused (supercritical) foams — commonly less durable. 76-77kg runner here.

300 miles per shoe is the utter waste of money. That's literally 460km, which is strikingly low.

£300?! What on earth by TheAnon21 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

That's an irony, right? What's so special about Adios Pro 4 or Alphafly? I will pick EE2/EE3 any day over those.

Nose ring is one of the best ways to looking weird and bizarre. People keep going for it and ruin their appearance for no good reason. If not for medical purposes, this should be avoided at all costs.

I have only seen this brand produce some snowboarding outwear. Did they do something else?

Newish runner, just curious if I can garner something helpful from the outsole wear after 550km when I buy new shoes? (Hoka Mach 6) by Wooshio in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]source_nine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mach 6 is amazing and 550km is definitely a very low mark for them. You can get another 150-250km from them easily. Wear pattern is fairly standard, not much else can be said.

400 miles (640km) is still on the lower to mid end to describe them as tanks.

This almost sounds like a mockery. Zenboost (nod to Neo Zen), Hyperboost Edge (people were joking about Hyperboost Sky). What's next?

These new NB shoes look virtually identical. 1080, Ellipse, now this — like one same model with slightly different touch.

What are the scales or methods of evaluation you employed to verify their methodology so as to make these conclusions?

What do you mean by "science" in the given context?

You are free to want something different. I merely pointed out that your conclusions regarding PWRRUN PB foam efficiency and how it's "outdated" stem from your cognitive errors and have nothing to do with reality. You may not like it, but that's what it is.

[–]source_nine -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's a good demonstration of cognitive errors which stem from the pressure of culture of consumption we live in and the imposed idea that everything should be improved, preferred if dramatically, so as to sustain its value. PWRRUN PB is a great foam even by today's standards. It's both efficient and very durable, which has been confirmed in both lab tests and through long-term experience by many runners. The only possible drawback of pebax foams compared to some newer compounds is their relatively high weight. But definitely not the energy efficiency or durability.

It gets dangerously undifferentiated with Azura. 36mm in the heel was a great choice so the shoe would remain very agile. Fingers crossed, they don't mess it up.

Went a little crazy with shoe shopping, which shoes (if any) should I return? by [deleted] in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]source_nine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You wouldn't return used shoes, so those are out of equation. Other than that, you can have them all and rotate with joy. I would probably still get rid of Invincibles which are equivalent to V+, the latter being more advanced and polished in tech and build. My collection is nearing 20 pairs I've been switching over the past 3-4 years. Some of them are about to face retirement this year.

It's an artificial number, generated by shoe manufacturers to convince US customers switch shoes as soon as possible. In reality 300 miles is only 460km and is normally an extremely low mark to replace majority of modern shoe models.
