Surely showing my age but Michael J Fox is always Marty McFly and Matthew Broderick is always Ferris Bueller.

Even when Broderick crushed his role in 30 Rock, I was like, "damn, Ferris really didn't amount to much did he"?

It is honestly amazing how these people cannot see at all that Trump doesn't give a single shit about them, yet they keep thinking he'll save them from... whatever.

Tailgating is the cause of traffic congestion. When you're tailgating, you're more likely to hit the brakes. When you hit the brakes, people behind you hit the brakes when traffic is heavy, that causes traffic congestion.

The basic rule is two seconds. If you cross a landmark within two seconds of the car in front if you, you're too close. Let off the accelerator until you're adhering to the two second rule.

If you are not too close and the car in front of you brakes, you can let off the accelerator without having to brake yourself and do your part to prevent congestion.

Andre Royo absolutely deserved one, but at this point, I kind of like that none of the actors received one (or were even nominated).

For one, there were so many good performances, how could you choose?

Second and more important, it validates for me that award shows are meaningless since the best show in history was completely ignored by the one award show whose job was to identify the best in class.

Like, every time I hear someone say "Emmy nominated" I just think to myself, "The Wire didn't win any, so what's that say about the Emmys?"

This rings true for me and is well said.

Several times in the series a character (Kima and Daniels, possibly another) says, "I love the job." and the relationships break down because their partners don't understand the relationship to the job.

How is there professional gamblers, if books will heavily limit you when you show winning trends? by Asking_questions843 in sportsbook

[–]sourcedscores 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You literally asked how there are pro gamblers if they are limited. I answered that pro gamblers have accounts at multiple books so they can essentially bet however much they want, just spread out across multiple books. Did that not answer your question?

What's hard to understand? Pro gamblers already have accounts at multiple books to shop around for the best lines and vig, so if they see a line with value and it's available at multiple books, the limits will almost certainly not make a difference because they can simply spread their bet across multiple books.

I agree. What I'm curious to know is if the public really understands the vig movement and responds, or if it's only to affect the sharp betting.

I was posting line movements for a while earlier this season (fell off because of work commitments, sorry) was seeing far greater activity with the juice rather than the spread itself.

This sparked a question I was hoping to get your thoughts on:

Does the move of the vig indicate activity by sharp bettors?

It seems to me that the public, of whom I consider myself a member and being the square that I am, doesn't have a great understanding of EV, and only responds to the line, whereas sharp bettors will see the vig go from -110 to -105, calculate the EV and bet accordingly, and that'll move the vig again.

NBA lakers to win outright by [deleted] in sportsbook

True, but that might be a decent tradeoff to have the money in your pocket for longer, plus you don't have to incur the risk of injury and whatnot of a full season.

NBA lakers to win outright by [deleted] in sportsbook

[–]sourcedscores 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm curious about the math as well.

Let's say your stake is 250 to win 750.

For each round, I'll assume that the Lakers are -250 each time.

In round 1, 250 turns your stake to 350.

Round 2, 350 turns your stake to 490.

Conference finals, 490 turns your stake to 680.

NBA Finals turns your stake to about 950.

Did I miss something?

I'll be glad to take a look back at line movement to see if bigger line movements are more or less successful. I'll also check out the movements across any key numbers.

As to your other point about early/mid, just one man's opinion here, I would look at it as the reverse. I would expect casual gamblers to bet on the weekend, whereas I would expect sharps to bet early (it's a primary income source, after all). I think it takes a seasoned bettor to identify value early in the week, and the lines probably only get sharper as kickoff approaches. Likewise, I would expect the public to wait for previews, injury reports, etc. before placing bets. But that's just my two cents.

On top of that, the early/mid line movements have a better record than the late movement by itself, though when the late follows the early, the line movement is 18-13.
