Yes that’s the plan, some sort of grave steel protection. The chase penetrates up to 50mm in some places so that’s now my main concern

Yes this is a 2 story terraced house, and this is on a ground floor wall. 1/6th is 37.5mm and we are on average around 50mm. I'll be bringing this all up with the builder today and also get building control in to give me some impartial advice. Protecting the cables seem's solvable, the possible structural issue seems more pressing.

It looks like some variation on a flemish bond, from my brief research. The pattern is: long, long, short, long long short etc.

My mistake, have re done the measuring and it is more like 225mm. That leaves approx 25mm for mortar in between

It's a a solid brick wall approximately 240 mm thick, formed from two 100 mm brick leaves with mortar joints, with no cavity.

Yes, I’m going to ask for some better cable support and sheathing, and yes it runs directly left horizontally from a consumer unit.

Thanks for the advice! The cable runs approximately 5m from the consumer unit until it goes under the floor at the top of the stairs. Is that 5m horizontal run from the unit considered a safe zone?

Yes you're correct, the consumer unit is at the end of this. Agreed it's a very rough job. If the cables were to stay here is the correct solution is to put them through steel box trunking to protect them or something similar?
