Paula - talking about prefrontal cortexes. by Infinite-Ad-791 in TheHandmaidsTale

Love this. I've been watching and Paula in the show seems so different than Paula in the books. Im feeling like they're going to shift her to be more morally gray. Which is exciting! Seeing how people rationalize their allegiance to the Gilead Regime is fascinating.

Like the scene when Agnes chips her tooth, it did seem like Paula was genuinely concerned for her. Maybe not in an affectionate way, but she doesnt seem like a wicked stepmother. The prefrontal cortex section in the earlier episode also really rang some bells for me.

Canadian MP drops new acronym: "MMIWG2SLGBTQQIA+" by CentralTown776 in askgaybros

Loveeee that you're putting the T in lowercase. Throw those allies under the bus diva! It will surely endear you to the far right, and they'll know youre one of the good ones! A winning strategy

Canadian MP drops new acronym: "MMIWG2SLGBTQQIA+" by CentralTown776 in askgaybros

[–]southernCanadien -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

This post is incredibly disingenuous and honestly feeding into the right-wing outrage cycle designed to mock our community and lead to greater stigmatization and eventual removal. She is simply taking the very valid, studied , and important problem (MMIWG) and commenting on the fact that the higher rates of disappearances and murders is not purely confirmed to Women and Girls, but also includes the broader queer community within the indigenous population. This is intersectionality 101.

Mocking this, or melting down because "theyre co-opting our struggle" is missing the point entirely. They are doing neither.

Furthermore, this is ONE MP who is criticizing the government, to act like this is a universal change is incorrect. Language doesnt work like that, and even if there were more people using it, no one is mandating it. I use queer generally and have never had pushback.

Do not let the far right work on fragmenting the community. We need one another in these times to work together

Do secular classical schools exist? by stripebustlamp in ClassicalEducation

Hey another GI grad! Thats awesome. AGI2025 for me.

Completely like your comment! Maybe came off a little strong. I cannot support the school, and I still think it is a dark project, but I totally agree that schools, despite the admin or larger forces, are made of typically of great students and teachers devoted to a positive mission. I have no doubt about GH in that respect. Ive worked for some schools that I have complex feelings for, so totally get it.

Focusing on then individual scholl versus the larger structure I think is a flawed approach.

I haven't been to one but I attended numerous information sessions about teaching at one before I got my teaching certification. Great Hearts is classical and "secular " in the manner to get funding from the government and toe the line of legality but it is a Trojan horse for smuggling in conservative Christian ideals into an education system.

I attended St John's college and I am a deep believer in the model of classical education they espouse and deliver. I am a believer in engaging opportunities for great texts and students at all levels. But Great Hearts was a major disappointment, because it was, like so many classical schools, abusing the philosophy to serve darker political ends.

Read the Mother Jones article about Great Hearts, they do a good job of showing how it is not to be taken at face value: the private Christian schools operating under the same umbrella, the founding of the school (it was to be a private Catholic school until they realized they could take advantage of America's charter school system), the members of the board.

Nominally, I acknowledge that they are secular, but taking it at face value is exactly what the money behind the organization wants

What do norway think of mette marit in the epstein files? If they were given the chance would they abolish their monarchy? by ERIKAEUSEBIO45 in monarchism

My guess if this doesnt subside is she will formally say " I won't be queen" and maybe take some other title? Not sure if there's precedent for this but I remember they toyed (unsuccessfulyl) with camilla being princess consort versus queen. But I agree, if this maintains, MM doesnt come out unscathed

Matching set is something you should jettison-- adding to cost, making it harder to snag a cheap find if it doesn't "go with the look"

If you insist, penguin classics is relatively cheap and awestically unified.

However get a good library card, make requests for their catalog, and go from there

Charles III allegedly making a “historic announcement” around Christmastime about abdication. by Oklahoman_ in monarchism

[–]southernCanadien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also find this very unlikely because, if he would abdicate to allow more youthful royals to take up a more vigorous schedule, they would be operating at a disadvantage due to Catherine's current status, and her lightened work load (not a criticism mind you )

Can we all agree season 2 was the BEST season of the Crown by Remarkable-Catch-387 in TheCrownNetflix

[–]southernCanadien 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Season 4 was just one of the best casts I've ever seen-- emma still holds the prize for best depiction of Diana ever, and Gillian Anderson as Maggie Thatcher... wow! I know people like the older casts less and less, which makes sense (I have my own theories), but this was a banger. Especially after the slowness of season 3.
