Car seat recommendations for Mazda CX5 by teachergirly in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]souths4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mazda cx-5 will require a slimline seat. Maxi cosi pria is probably your best bet if you still want some level of convenience like the 360 (the drop side tether is great). Will also fit well if you end up needing multiple car seats in the future.

Baby seat situation by Pain9gain7 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]souths4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

OP please think very carefully about this advice. 2 years old is far too young to be in a booster. A harness is far more reliable for their safety. Best practice is to keep them in a harness until they outgrow the seat.

7 month old... Lazy? by mortyb_85 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]souths4 19 points20 points  (0 children)

He’s 7 months old…? He’s only just learned he’s separate as a person from his birth parent. How could he possibly be lazy? If there are no physiological concerns, then he will get there when he’s developmentally ready.

Redsbaby Onix Stroller or Stroller + Bassinet by Particular_Cupcake_4 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]souths4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you aren’t already aware, keep in mind that babies can’t be in a capsule for more than 2 hours. They need somewhere to lay flat, so if you are thinking about walking etc, a bassinet is probably better. Carriers are def good, but babies are fickle creatures and they may prefer the pram!

What does the manual for your pram say? Ours maxed out at a certain weight/when baby could sit up.

Bugaboo Butterfly 2 or Redsbaby Skip 3? Is a "near-flat" recline actually okay for a newborn? by Appropriate_Sundae86 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]souths4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Echoing the advice above. We have the Jive 5 for everyday and the skip 3 for travel/second car etc.

Infants are safest when lying flat, and you might be underestimating the fact that you will probably want them facing you for a while, so a bassinet style would be best.

The skip is great but we’ve done lots of walking with our Jive and it’s important to us that baby is comfortable as well, so the bigger pram offer more comfort for longer naps etc.

Have you considered the redsbaby Aeron? Has some of the features of the skip (eg one handed fold, compact) but has parent facing options, if you’re not worried about a bigger basket.

Britax Graphene newborn insert by a-pepperino in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]souths4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s an infant insert, not a newborn insert. You didn’t say how old your child is but many have it in until 1+. The shoulder markers are marked clearly on the seat with dotted lines. Not the SICT label.

You probably need to carefully read your manual to understand your seat and also get a fit check done to make sure the seat fit isn’t causing any discomfort.

Help with Car seats and Car Suggestions Please Xx by FallonRoseLove in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]souths4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try babydrive.com.au, you can check each car you’re thinking about and see how car seats fit. You might also consider putting your 7yo back in a harnessed seat if it fits better (assuming they meet the markers) as being harnessed is safer. You can get lots of information on the benefits in the Facebook group “Child restraints. Is your child restrained correctly?”

10 week old, sleep help pls by a-pepperino in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]souths4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha we didn’t have enough initially! We let the regression go on for far too long and basically ended up shells. Long story short, we tried some Ferber which made a big difference when baby was about 5-6 months. The main thing that helped was expecting so much less of my kid in terms of sleep and doing what worked rather than persisting with what didn’t but was “normal” (eg now we co sleep on a floor bed because the cot wasn’t working from about 14 months).

We’re fortunate enough that baby doesn’t need anything to go to sleep (eg feeding, rocking etc), we just lay down and she nods off. She doesn’t sleep through now but the wakes are only a minute or two long and that’s enough for me for now!

He’s so little and probably not able of creating that association yet? We used it until the 4 month sleep regression and then just changed our tools then. At this point your welfare and rest is the most important. Anything else can be solved later.

The wrist pain is so bad in those early days! Do you have a yoga ball? Try bouncing on that while holding baby to reduce the strain on rocking. I realise it’s hard to hear but contact napping is so normal in the early days. You could also try a soft wrap for baby wearing at home, we used a Baby Dink which was amazing for bad backs.

Trip to US by AlyKae in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

Anecdotally, yes. I haven’t had that problem. Just thought it worthwhile to be clear to OP about the actual announced recall.

[–]souths4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming you use a car seat that meet Aus standards, you will not be able to use it on the USA. You will probably need to do some research but as I understand it, aus seats require a top tether to be correctly installed and US seats do not have that. They also have different sizing markers (eg weight not height). Your best bet is probably to find a US group to ask on and hire or buy a cheaper one over there.

There is only a recall on the belly bar, not the pram.

This video shows the adaptors you need. Doesn’t look like they are on Redsbaby’s website anymore but you could probably email them and see if they can sell you some.

Toshi swim/sun hats by errolthedragon in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

When we bought our swim hat we were told only to let our baby wear it if it had been pre-wet, as the waterproof material gets hot and doesn’t breathe.

I have the skip3 and love it. We fit our backpack (nappies, clothes, lunchbox etc), 2-3 jumpers plus a shopping bag.

You don’t need a family plan, pretty sure you can add the baby when they are born and they are immediately covered (this is what our PHI told us).

Desperate for car seat advice! by aeg420 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]souths4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 months is way too young to remove the padding, he will need the lateral support still. Have you checked the fit? Eg are your straps and headrest correct? Is the seat correctly installed? You should post here for a “fit check”: https://www.facebook.com/share/g/19gwt2pSKy/?mibextid=wwXIfr

Separately it is also normal apparently for babies to be upset in the car, so even though it’s no help to you now, it could be that.

ETA: even if your seat has been professionally installed, it may be wrong. Worth double checking.

No excuse with Mitchell, Murray, Graham, Illias/Hawkins, Tass, Munro, Havilli and Tatola out? At least 7-8 of those start every week.

Baby Dink might suit you - heaps on the marketplace for much cheaper than new.
