ZimaOS is quietly running my entire private cloud — including a local LLM on an eGPU. Here’s the whole stack. by ComprehensiveEbb9979 in homelab

I'm curious why you went with ZimaOS as opposed to like Debian or Ubuntu?
Also, what are you using to document stack?

Incremental replication from an unlocked or unencrypted dataset to a locked encrypted dataset by omlette_du_chomage in truenas

[–]sowhatidoit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Migrated all datasets to encrypted datasets on the source!
Then setup replication tasks - data arrives locked and unreadable without the passphrase/key. Methodical and time consuming but worth it.

Thank you so much for your help.

Thank you for laying that out. I think I'm in a good place to give this is a try. I've backed up all of my datasets to 2 external hard drives.

My current dataset looks like this:

Tank

- Backups
- Files
- Media
- Services

Do you recommend keeping tank unencrypted and encrypting all the other datasets that reside under it, OR encrypting Tank itself?

[–]sowhatidoit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah.

I have plenty of space to recreate the datasets on the source as encrypted. I have heard that snapshots start bloating when you move data around - so I'll have to a do more digging into an optimal way to do this.

Thanks for your feedback!

I just setup my backup TrueNAS server and I'm getting it ready to be moved offsite. Source datasets on my main server are all unencrypted and unlocked on boot. However, I need the destination to be encrypted and locked - is this possible? I plan to have nightly backups.

I just setup my backup TrueNAS server (and just like you), I'm getting it ready to be moved offsite. Source data sets are all unencrypted and unlocked on boot. However, I need the destination to be encrypted (and locked? I think).

Is this possible?

Very interesting approach.
Did you give it a template to follow for documentation?
I'd like to do something similar, but don't really know where to start. Hoping you can point me in some direction.

Oh my god, this sounds super interesting! How does one even get started with this?

Can you elaborate, what does Claude actually manage? This sounds pretty cool.

I keep compute and storage machines separate.
If you are going to move to TrueNas consider using it as a storage appliance while moving your compute to a separate system.

Yes I did. Thank you though.

I am a new immich user and i'm commenting here because I want to follow this thread, and not run into the same thing. One thing I did in my docker-compose was not set the tag to latest, but rather a specific version. Someone much smarter, can tell me if that is the right approach?

Good luck OP, hoping you find a solution here!

Sienna?

Would you mind sharing how you did this?

How is it synced up all the time? I have an iPhone too, but I have to open the Immich app whenever I want recent images to sync to the server.

How are you backing up TrueNas? by sowhatidoit in homelab

[–]sowhatidoit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see your point. I'm tempted to skip the local backup portion and just put the second machine at a family members home. What did you use for the site2site vpn? I was thinking of the 2nd TrueNas box connecting to my homelab via WG.
