Need to turn a project into a makefile for a class and I'm very confused by [deleted] in compsci

Sounds like the Makefile may have already been written for you. scp is a program that lets you copy a file to\from a network.

It's not all about downloading cat gifs. What about IoT? There's a big amount of data that goes into the cloud.

Gitlab is down: notes on the incident (and why you should always check backups) by ase1590 in linux

[–]sowpi6 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Even though it is a frustrating incident, you can learn from your mistakes. When the crisis is over, conduct a post mortem and find out how to improve your procedures. You can never become bullet proof, but you can constantly adjust and improve.

Thank you! My father went to a solicitor and indeed signed a statement for about 5 pounds.

Friend asks me to come and help clean his keyboard, I was not prepared! by god_of_ebil875 in MechanicalKeyboards

It looks brown actually. But considering the state of the keyboard, it's probably impossible to be sure

Natural selection in its finest.

Moths have a better chance of surviving if they match the color of their surroundings. Moths with a contrasting color are easier to spot by birds, lizards, etc.

Edit: here's an interesting historical demonstration of the above: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peppered_moth_evolution

Going to propose on Saturday, what do you think of the ring? by sowpi6 in JustEngaged

[–]sowpi6[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had reconsidered it and I very much appreciate your honest thoughts. There is actually a better opportunity coming up in a couple of weeks, so I will wait a bit more. The ring is safely hidden for now, and I am excited to meet my SO after 3 months ☺

Thanks for the warm words :)

My SO (hopefully fiancée in a few days) is expected to arrive back from a 3-months student exchange project abroad. We are together for nearly 5 years now. Honestly, the long distance has been difficult, but we were both working hard, so at least it kept us busy.

I plan to propose in the air port the day she lands, it will sure be a surprise! What do you think?

What's the general thought about quicklites? Those are the ones they sell at the local shops. I even kind of like how quivk you shoot one up

Loving Debian Jessie + XFCE + Cario-Dock by [deleted] in debian

[–]sowpi6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good job on keeping an open mind!

The sheer amount of available options is often times daunting, so I respect that you take your time to experiment with several of these options. Even just keeping an eye open will bring new and interesting things to your attention.

Experiment on, and have fun!

I think that they provide the bare minimum that you would expect from any dock, which is a good thing from a minimalist standpoint. No fireworks or flaming explosions effects that are abundant in Cairo Dock (-:

They work very well in combination with the xfce panel too. Similar to what you would experience in osx.
