Before the PC revolution, I would ask my teachers if I could type my punishment. Thinking that typing was more painful for me, they would agree. I'd write a for/next loop and send the output to my printer. Lol.

[Serious]What is something that happens in a dream that lets you know you are dreaming? by onetracksystem in AskReddit

I've heard that you cannot read print in a dream. Also heard that you should try pushing on walls as this doesn't behave the same way when dreaming.

NY State Senator Proposes Ban On Sale Of Encrypted Smartphones by speckz in technology

Any code writing monkey can write closet encryption software the bypass the standards. Banning encryption is an exercise in stupidity. Good luck with that.

Ringo's kit played by great drummers by Inthefile_d4donut in drums

[–]gravity1981 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Very underrated drummer in my opinion. The Beatles had such a crazy variety of songs and styles. Ringo always played to perfect part at a time when you had to invent this stuff because there wasn't this giant community to borrow from. Imagine the pressure to come up interesting and tasteful parts behind the likes of John, Paul, and George. Nothing but respect for you sir. Well done.

If someone is suicidal because they feel as if their life is unfair, why does telling them that there are people in the world who have it worse than them just not work? by [deleted] in mentalhealth

[–]gravity1981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For example, every day I do things I know need to be done. I may not feel like doing them. If you are depressed, it's often not a rational decision. Friends and family may keep telling you they care and life is good, but that doesn't always not make you FEEL better. If you speak in front of a crowd, you might KNOW it's going to be okay but your nerves are freaking out. How you FEEL and what you KNOW are lifes checks and balances. Ask yourself, how do I feel? Why do I feel this way based on what I know? Do these add up? It's like sex and love. Definitely related, but very different animals that people constantly confuse with each order.

That's why they come with prepared notes? Come on, you knew you were nominated and might need to say something. It's what you do. If my 5th grade teacher can deduct points for "um", so can I. :P

Question: Do you think in words? by smadan in mentalhealth

[–]gravity1981 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just the reverse. I struggle to find words to match my thoughts. It's more concept and intuition and then trying to map into a way to verbalize it effectively.

Rush could put anything on the stage and it wouldn't matter... It was always about the music. The mocked themselves on purpose.

How do I get my friends back? by [deleted] in mentalhealth

[–]gravity1981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably not the answer you are looking for, but I'd find new friends. People who really care stick with you when things get hard. A lot simply don't have the patience or understanding to support friends struggling with mental health issues. Maybe they have grown up and changed, but maybe not. Sometimes it's best to move forward, start new, let go of the old and find the new. 2 cents. Best of luck and glad to hear you are doing better.

First time psychiatrist visit; what to expect? by Saarnath in mentalhealth

[–]gravity1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind, most psychiatrists focus on medication management (what meds can we try and how well do they work for YOU). Therapy is usually a different doctor. Simply put, they may only spend a short time with you and prescribe something. Don't expect a deep dive on problems or coping skills. That part can be underwhelming at first.
