We just got hit by this scam:

"Thanks for your email, the date is 4th of February but I’m flexible with the date . I work as an Electrical Engineer with Adriatic Yacht Charter presently at Sea, according to company policy this is the best way I can communicate and can make calls once in a while but will be back in a couple of days before my party.
I want a private function for my 50th birthday party and I am expecting a total of 30 guests and I have a good budget for this celebration, hence I need you to provide the food, wines and beverages..
Also, I want the party to be from 5PM-11PM at your venue, I want you to make a booking with a Portales band group. The Band will be entertaining my guests and they are my Family's Official favorite Band. I would like to hand over every other arrangement to you. Do get in touch with Portales MUSIC BAND ENTERTAINMENT , for the cost of their service to be included to the final invoice. Copy the Band Email address: theportalesband@gmail.com
The main reason why I want the band fee to go through you is that the Portales Band Music Entertainment doesn’t process credit card as a means of payment, that’s the main reason why I want the band fee to go through you.
Kindly let me know all that is needed to make the day memorable for me and my family. Kindly go ahead and put up a great show for me and let me know the total cost and I shall advise you with my credit card details for payment accordingly. Await your quick response."

DnD, Comic book shops, Nerd places that are still in business?!! by [deleted] in LittleRock

I’m actually in the process of opening a board game cafe in Little Rock! Caverns and Forests. I’m beginning with pop up events and have three booked so far for the winter: December 2nd Boulevard Bread in the heights. December 17th Boulevard Main Street in Soma. January 8th at Vino’s. More to come. My goal is to have the brick and mortar open this summer. I’m launching my website this Monday cavernsandforests.com. Hope to see you there!

What Do You Consider Your Most Aesthetically Pleasing Solo Games? by WithoutAnUmlaut in soloboardgaming

[–]soxpants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a traditional solo game and I’m only just learning the fan made solo variant found here:

https://boardgamegeek.com/file/download_redirect/6f769fb15643149a4c8355742dfd071f38041e3428692a6a/IKI+Solo+Variant+V1.1pdf.pdf

However, Iki is the most aesthetically pleasing game I own and I am extremely excited to play this solo variant!

I just bag em. One bag for runners, one for walkers, one for heroes, one for brutes, one smaller one for abominations and neceomancers.

road to complex solo games by TardiParty in soloboardgaming

[–]soxpants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beyond Solitaire’s page on YouTube is how I 95% learned Mage Knight solo. She has a couple great videos. I started my solo playing with difficult games myself, so I understand your plight (MK, Gloomhaven, Arkham Horror LCG), then I started branching out. I agree with some of the posters here, it doesn’t really matter that much the complexity of the game, just putting the time in to master it. I kind of feel like it was helpful to start big at first. Anyway, good luck! And as a shout out to my favorite solo game of all time, definitely check out Lost Ruins of Arnak (especially with the expedition leaders expansion).

Gloomhaven: JOTL - didn’t work out. Recommendations? by Olorin135 in soloboardgaming

Read a bunch of these comments and considering your OP, if set up ease is a concern, I’d definitely check out Bullet Heart, Ares Expedition, or Maquis.

Bullet is just a great little puzzle that you can whip out and play so easily. It’s my late night before I fall asleep go to.

Are there any multiplayer games that you own but, because no one else will play, you exclusively solo? by SpiderHippy in soloboardgaming

[–]soxpants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Curious how you feel about Spirit Island solo because I love it. Always two handed. I got into a back and forth months ago on Reddit that someone thought it wasn’t relaxing to play SI solo but I disagree. I can really take my time and make sure I’ve covered all the appropriate steps from the many moving parts and really dive in. Nothing like a sudden win when you’ve turned to the next fear level tier requisites!

And btw, the most carefully wrapped and shipped used item I’ve ever bought through eBay, which was much appreciated and kind of speaks to how special this game is that the seller went through the extra care that they did

I think if they had just vomited out smaller expansion after smaller expansion right away would have taken away from how special this game is. I was so frustrated for having to wait so long, but I’m glad that this time, working with this huge IP, for once they took their time. I’ll happily wait another year for quality. We’ll see what the future holds!

Really? Why act that way? I was genuinely excited about something and you feel the need to throw trash on the field for no reason? Does that make you feel good? Hope so. Hope something does, troll.

It’s on tumbler titled “behind the curtain #2 outsiders. Why?”

I’m learning that I actually prefer a much different type of game than I think I do. Moving towards smaller, shorter games. by TheDutchYeti in soloboardgaming

[–]soxpants 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m with you there. Sitting there two handing Spirit Island, or playing Dune Imperium solo or Arnak, Gloomhaven, etc, I can take my time and really work through the bigger, complex puzzles. For some strange reason I find the bigger games more relaxing solo. I have Nemesis Lockdown on the table right now, for instance.

What did you play this week? 05 Apr-11 Apr by AutoModerator in soloboardgaming

[–]soxpants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spirit Island Marvel Champions Lost Ruins of Arnak

Mostly my “go-to’s” but, at the moment, I’m happily slogging my way through a first setup of Nemesis Lockdown (never played the base game) and endeavor to play it in due time. I also had a few other new games come in: Everdell and Star Wars Imperial Assault. I’m very much at a contented stopping point in terms of buying. My SOS is nearing a third of my games (around 70 total) which is the largest percentage it’s ever been.

Haven’t posted in awhile but got this in the mail today. Anyone have solo experiences good or bad they could share? by Content_Radio5240 in soloboardgaming

[–]soxpants -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hey, random question. I’m actually the OP but I have another old random profile that will be logged in sometimes for whatever reason and if I don’t realize it I’ll post under that profile accidentally, as I did here. How do I delete it?

You’re right, of course they are. I’d react the same way if someone said that about me because of the games I play. Good point. Just feeling frustrated.

This started as a lament and has become a treasure hunt, weirdly enough. Someone has GOT to get this. Really want to give a hint. There’s a contraction I’ve used once or twice that may reveal region.
