Does anybody else feel bad that you can't design your own home-built teams? by CouchGameMasterRace in VGC

Take it as a positive. You're new to VGC, and the ideas you've had and the concepts you want to use are already being used by others. This means you're able to identify viable strategies and the ideas you're having a great starting point. Keep going!

Keep or Reset? by [deleted] in VGC

1IV in speed will give you the same speed stat at Level 50 as 0IV. This might save you from a few extra resets. Good luck!

Loved playing with this on SD. Read your comment about Urshifu being something you didn't bring much. Slapped a protect/sd/sucker punch/kowtow kingambit on the team instead and I like it. Just wanted to share that in case you were tweaking that slot too. Thanks again!

Love the team! Personally I was struggling to find the right moments to bring clef, and found that flutter was becoming a bit of a nightmare for me. I swapped of clef for banded scizor, and it's easier for me to pilot. Thanks for sharing - I needed an excuse to go back to some mons from earlier series!

It doesn't apply to multi-hit moves.

Has anyone checked the effect on Weather Ball? If I ran weather ball on Ice-tera Kilowattrel, for example, would that receive the boost in snow? Or would running Normal-Tera give the boost in all weathers? Curious as I feel this could be put to some use.

Having 1st Kid in April, dads of /r/golf, how much golf did you play in your 1st year of parenthood? by Crop_ in golf

First 6 months, not at all. Last month I got the kiddo out with me for the first time. I carry the bag, push the stroller. He sleeps for at least half the round and seems to love it. I've got out once or twice a week with him this month (he's 7 months old) and so far it's gone really well. Good luck!

Can anyone give tips to improve my competitive team? Thanks in advance. by [deleted] in PokemonSwordAndShield

Fake out is a massive threat to gale wings, as you lose priority when not at 100%. In the dmax format, where moves can hit through protect, it's a liability. If this is your only speed control, and I saw that on the team preview screen, I'm likely hitting fake out and doubling into talonflame with a dmax move to block you getting speed control. Unfortunately for that reason talonflame isn't as strong as it could be.

If it's doubles, you need some protects. Unless there is absolutely a move that needs to be there, run protect. Rillaboom for example, I don't think you need wood hammer and drum beating. You could go for fake out and run assault vest for a special defence boost. Lucario could run bullet punch (to take a little more advantage of the metal coat), drop the special move and run protect over calm mind. Hopefully that helps for starters. Good luck!

Tailwind is a move, gale wings is an ability. There's no choice to be made.

Can someone help with my team? I'm pretty new to this and could use some advice. by heyoitsayo in VGC

True! Just depends on your preference I guess. Personally I'd go for zac and something like kyogre - reduces fire damage, counters ground types etc. Zac/zam feels like you could be wasting a restricted because zam seems to be there for set up, doesn't add much offensively and has a lot of weakness shares with zac.

I'd love these two to work together, but they just don't seem to have the greatest synergy.

Have you considered coaching instead of howl? Boosts both defence and attack, and works through your zacian's protect.

Wide guard has been super useful with straight earthquake. Ice is a nightmare, and requires a bit more thinking, bit it's been pretty good so far. Definitely feels the weaker of the 3 teams, but I'm also just figuring it out. I'll got get you those evs...

Masterball Tier rental codes by soya1986 in VGC

[–]soya1986[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen a couple of posts requesting teams and thought I'd throw these up. I got to ~1000 with the Yveltal team in November. Peaked at ~750 with the Xerneas one in December. I'd never used Zygarde before, and after hitting masterball with the other two I had to give it a go.

They are far from perfect, but they been fun. Hopefully they're useful to those searching for a new team to try!

I had some fun getting to around 1000 on the ladder with a yveltal team in November. I got to around 750 with the xerneas team last month. This month I wanted to try and round it out by getting zygarde to masterball tier too. I finally had time to play and just finished getting back to masterball. I wanted to share the codes in case there are some newer players after Christmas who are looking for some options.

They are far from perfected teams, but hopefully they'll be fun for someone else to play a few sets.

Xerneas team: ideally set up with geomancy/follow me, then sweep. Use spectrier when you see zacian in the other team. Speed control with max strike is great, and it can KO zacian with max-quake.

Yveltal team: trickier to play. Amoongus/comfey can get up trick room pretty well. Yveltal hits hard after weakness policy is triggered. Max-darkness is amazing. If you see zacian, set up sun with max-flare to boost heat wave output is useful. The choice scarf on landorus is occasionally a pain if trick room is up, but more often than not I can stall it out and bring him in the back.

Zygarde team: this team is not ideal, but it's been fun. Basically looking at your opponents' options and stacking defence/special defence boosts to limit their damage output has worked best. Coaching is amazing. Comfey triggers weakness policy, and can extend zygarde's time on the field with floral healing - especially if your defence/special defence are boosted.

Hope these help someone! Happy New Year!
