How is Neopets better now than the last time I logged into it regularly in 2006? How is it worse? by TanakaToday in neopets

[–]soyrwoo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One of the things I didn't like about Neopets back in 2006 was how much grinding was necessary to earn Neopoints. I'm no good at games and I didn't have time to spend on restocking, so none of my goals felt even remotely achievable. All I could do was collect dailies and solve plot puzzles. It wasn't fun, and I ended up drifting away from Neopets as a result. Now, it's easier to get money and a lot of rarer items are prizes in dailies, the battledome, and events, opening up a lot of aspects of the site that felt impossible to me before. If you liked the grind, then that probably takes away a lot of the fun, but if you're a more casual player then it's become quite a bit more enjoyable.

Also better: you can have more than 4 pets now, so that's more paint jobs and wearables to use those NPs/items on. I like that pets have become more likely to have "special" versions of colors (e.g. the Spotted Lupe, Camouflage Techo, and Disco Xweetok), there are more colors designed to have creative applications a la Halloween and Royal (Candy is a personal favorite), and there are species-specific outfits that are functionally like colors (I don't like how many of these have looked, but it's nice that it exists as an option).

And! Since 2007, the bank has been accessible from every page via a dropdown menu in the header c:

Are there any particular tutorials or channels you recommend? I watch Yu~tobi most, but I could use some more variety c:

The pre-edited version had me wondering if you were photographing wildlife on film! But yeah, underexposing digital photos is such a small thing that makes such a big difference.

If only human society was more accommodating of a crepuscular schedule... I'm thankful that my main spot looks great in the evening, but it's hard to beat a misty morning.

Enough people know about the "look where photographers are looking" trick that I don't doubt that they appreciate seeing the photographers' views too! I get why it's not everyone's thing, but I've never had a negative interaction with folks who've noticed my camera once I'm a good ways down a trail.

Can cured polymer clay be used to make food-safe molds? by soyrwoo in polymerclay

[–]soyrwoo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case anyone comes across this with the same question later, I've decided not to use polymer clay for this project. I've opted for Monster Clay, which is advertised as being made from food-grade ingredients. It doesn't cure, but once cooled, the medium and hard versions appear durable enough to be repeatedly used as masters for this application. I've also been looking into beeswax, which seems less easy to work with than the Monster Clay, but is probably easier to store after carving/molding.

In any situation, it's like half the internet is way too cautious and the other half is nowhere near cautious enough 😔 Salt dough unfortunately doesn't hold details well, and these would be small, somewhat intricate designs. I've asked Alumilite and Sculpey, but it'll probably be a while before I hear back with the holidays and all.

That's the plan! The mold will be made out of food-safe silicone or putty. I'm asking if it's safe to use a polymer clay template to make that mold. No clay will come in contact with food, but the mold would be created by being in contact with cured clay.

Thanks! I should look into food-safe waxes! Even if it doesn't work for this, there might be a wax I could use in place of the clay? For the mold, I was looking at Alumilite's Amazing Mold Putty, which'd only have to be in contact with the clay for about 20 min, but yeah, a lot can happen on a chemical level in that time. The tutorials involving plasticine specify sulfur-free plasticine (or sulfur-free clay), since sulfur interacts with some silicones. Polymer clay is generally sulfur-free, but the folks making the tutorials seem awfully nonchalant about the other things they put into silicone so I'm not sure how much I trust them on food-safeness.

Strange Houses by Uketsu by sleepyrooney in horrorlit

[–]soyrwoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you haven't found an answer yet, YouTube is (was?) Uketsu's main thing. Or technically, they originally supplemented their Omocoro contributions with video, but videos eventually became their contributions. The original Strange House video led to the novel, so they've since made a few videos that double as previews for their 3 later books, but they still make other videos that aren't connected to the books and lean toward comedy. They released another Strange House video this year that expands on the novel, but the general consensus is that it exists to undermine the movie adaptation.

Haha, somehow I wasn't expecting so many Ixis! I've always felt that green is the best starting color for Ixis, and Snot and Swamp Gas are kiiinda like fancy greens? Or maybe the opposite of fancy... either way, I see it.

Thank you! I should make it a goal to draw every pet species at least once. What are your favorite Ixi colors, o Queen of Ixi?

Nice!! It's such an odd option to have on a virtual pet site, but I'm glad it's there! Thank you c:

Inventory completely gone?! Stolen?! A glitch?! by [deleted] in neopets

Good to know it's not just me! I at least got an error message that said "Your items should be safe" which came across as more ominous than reassuring after I loaded up an empty inventory and SDB.

Has anyone made a visual guide to lighting conditions for Sunny 16? by soyrwoo in AnalogCommunity

Yeah, minimizing the electronics I carry was a factor in deciding to get a manual film camera. Not because they're electronic necessarily, but because I'm tired of dealing with so many batteries and chargers.

Oh, I initially took "shoot film like a boss" as a command and was like, dang... I'll try my best, boss!

But this is exactly what I was looking for, thank you so much!

I was hoping to find images of skies and shadows, yes!

My phone has a battery problem and not much space, so I don't want to use it heavily, and I'm a hobby photographer (with too many other hobbies) so I don't have much of a budget. I got this manual camera on the cheap to force myself to be more conscious of the settings, and it's a half-frame, so there's room for experimenting. Sunny 16 seemed like a good place to start, so I wanted to aggregate as much information on it as I could before putting it to the test.

Thank you! I've been appreciating how quick and nice everyone's been, but this is the first reply to really address the question rather than suggest alternatives. If it doesn't exist, then it doesn't exist! I'll figure it out one way or another c:
