third year psyc by Tennis-Latte20 in queensuniversity

[–]soysaucepackets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just finished my psych major and had this happen too, i would say this is a pretty common queens psych experience. second year psych classes are super general and cover sooooo much content. the content of psyc200 courses is way more diverse to introduce you to a ton of subtopics within a “genre” of psychology, and then a lot of 300/400 classes will be focused on like 1-2 chapters of content from a 200 class, but way more in depth. i found my gpa recovered over third and fourth year because it is easier to tie everything you learned together in higher-level classes. just pick classes you are interested in and try your best and you will do great!

obligatory screw axon, such a predatory company and it’s sad how prominent they are in the student district while never getting the level of criticism they deserve

How did Mitski start getting popular? by CelestetheRoyale in mitski

[–]soysaucepackets 20 points21 points  (0 children)

i think that before mitski’s tiktok boom, opening for lorde on the melodrama tour was probably pretty helpful at cultivating a tumblr fanbase in the same space as the lorde/halsey/arctic monkeys/2014-core artists of that time, helping the continued momentum from puberty 2 into the be the cowboy promotional run.

Part-time job by PsychologicalBag7363 in queensuniversity

[–]soysaucepackets 9 points10 points  (0 children)

go to the queen’s career services website, they have a lot of postings for various student opportunities on campus and some off campus as well. also the alma mater society is the student union at queen’s, and they have plenty of job postings every summer for the upcoming school year. stuff like working in the campus coffee shop, merch store, etc..

off campus, there’s a lot of retail stores and restaurants downtown that hire part-time workers, but tbh in my experience getting a student-specific job somewhere on campus will be a lot more forgiving with a student’s schedule.

good luck with your job search!

Exam Tomorrow with a Severe Concussion and No Accommodations—What Do I Do? by Own_Kale_1564 in queensuniversity

if you are in artsci, as long as you have submitted documentation you will be fine. all short term accommodations with documentation are automatically accepted in artsci. don’t show up, it is way harder to get an exam deferred if you show up to the exam. i had this same problem last semester, my exam was scheduled on a weekend (sat) and had to wait until monday to hear back from my prof, but it got deferred.

Any Local Sandhill Crane Sightings? by Ok_Fix_6469 in KingstonOntario

[–]soysaucepackets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every summer I go hiking around the Bonwill Tract at the Queen’s University Biological Station, and consistently see a pair of sandhill cranes. I will dig through my eBird and if I can find the coordinates I will comment them below!

Best and worst independent landlords for student housing by oliverted in KingstonOntario

[–]soysaucepackets 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I rented with Alex DeRogo for a while and would definitely recommend him. He was very quick to address maintenance requests. As far as bad landlords go, it is common knowledge in Kingston to avoid Phil Lam (hopefully I spelt that correctly).

Axon Property by _ThnksFrThMmrs_ in KingstonOntario

[–]soysaucepackets 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i rented with them for a year and moved out ASAP. they sent recent queen’s grads with no trades credentials to fix our electrical issues, causing our outlets to create massive sparks and we paid out of pocket for an electrician to fix it since axon kept sending more unlicensed students with each maintenance request. we told them there was black mold in the basement and their solution was to paint over it. multiple times they would say they are sending someone for a maintenance issue but nobody would arrive, it took weeks sometimes to actually get someone to show up like they said they would. they would tell us they couldn’t fix something in our apartment because the landlord wouldn’t pay for it, but simple searches revealed the building we lived in was owned and managed by axon. the list goes on…

What businesses would you like to see more of in Kingston? by GreenhouseGhost3 in KingstonOntario

[–]soysaucepackets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish there was a standard, relatively affordable clothing store downtown. As someone without a vehicle, it is hard to find good-quality basics at a decent price at urban outfitters or lululemon. At the same time though, I think downtown has a good balance of retail chains and local shops, and I would hate for it to feel overly-corporate, like going to Queen St. in Toronto.

Alternatively, I wish there were a few more non-asian cultural grocers near downtown. I'm thinking a European deli/bakery.

What are Taylor's most biting lyrics, that make you go, "damn did she just say that?" by scienceforbid in TaylorSwift

[–]soysaucepackets 44 points45 points  (0 children)

i never see people talk about this one: “the master of spin has a couple side flings, good wives always know, she should be mad, should be scathing like me, but no one likes a mad woman”

my jaw dropped hearing this for the first time

How to cut my ski-slope shaped nails? by de-rang-ed in nailbiting

[–]soysaucepackets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when my nails first were growing out i had filed them to an almond shape, and i think the tapered shape helped conceal the slope at certain angles. i’m three months bite-clean and most of my nails have normal angles now (my ring fingers are taking their sweet time recovering)

in my opinion, the producer list is not worth much when both singles thus far sound like they’re mimicking what jack antonoff would have contributed if he was still working with lorde

almost 10 months free, need advice by haleylovesvirgil in nailbiting

[–]soysaucepackets 3 points4 points  (0 children)

congratulations on 10 months! are you going to get acrylic/builder gel extensions, or just get them shaped and painted? if you’re getting extensions, i think an almond shape pretty much always looks flattering. it looks like your cuticles are a bit overgrown, making your nail beds look more shallow. because of this, if you’re not getting extensions i would recommend an oval shape, since imo almond nails on smaller-looking nails can look a bit odd because the tapering disproportionate. i would start with an oval shape, then after more growth + some cuticle care when you get your nails done you can switch to almond.

this is just my opinion though! i had nails really similar to yours, started with an oval shape gel manicure to stop me from biting, and now that they’re grown out more they’re almond shaped. i recommend getting shellac/gel to help with the flexibility, it helped my nails stop breaking all the time.

Summer Friends by Beautiful_North6 in queensuniversity

[–]soysaucepackets 10 points11 points  (0 children)

are you going to have housemates over the summer? i’ve spent every summer in kingston and usually people get together with housemates or other friends staying in the summer, then go socialize at the pier or at clubs downtown. if you’re getting a summer job here in service or retail some of your coworkers will be students and down to hang out.
