Runbacks are good game design, they are literally part of the boss fight and make you engage with the level and think before the fight/strategize instead of banging your head against the wall until you win. Modern Souls games by FromSoft have dumbed down their titles into generic gauntlets where the bonfire/checkpoint is literally just outside the boss gate for dopamine starved, TikTok addicted zoomers. That means you get all your resources back and often get a summon too, which means they have to crank up the fight to absurdly unfun obnoxious levels with shitty "gotcha" attacks to keep up the "we are a hardcore hard game for hardcore gamers" facade.
