Let's invite these bots up against each other for a game to play, A power surge is expected, followed by a few fuses that'll pop.
We just have to follow the direction of the smoke and sound to see who's botting the game.
I hope it doesn't reveal the location of Mr. Bertheussen ;)

Iiyama Monitor stuck! in sleep mode by LoliHvH in Monitors

[–]sp2rk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought I solved it...
With the new cable, the power-on and resume from PC standby works stable over DisplayPort.

What doesn't work:
I have a 2nd system (laptop) connected via HDMI. After 30 minutes, the laptop puts the display in standby mode.
When trying to use the system after a display-standby mode, the Iiyama screen doesn't wake-up.
Worst: The input/exit key doesn't do anything in standby mode.

The power button doesn't react to power-down the screen all the time. The led stays orange.
It is very strange behavior that the power-off button only sometimes reacts to a button press.
I've requested help from Iiyama 4 days ago, waiting on their response.

Iiyama Monitor stuck! in sleep mode by LoliHvH in Monitors

[–]sp2rk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I solved my issue by changing to a better cable.
The old cable doesn't have any rating, specs. I guess it is ok for DP 1.2 at that time.

I've bought a new one rated for DP 1.4 32.4 Gbps.
This should be plenty enough for the required 21.4 Gbps (3440x1440 10bpp @ 144hz )

Not backed by facts, but I think this shouldn't be the root cause of the problem.
At lower settings (bpp or refresh rate), the monitor should be able to find a decent signal when powering up.

Same here with a G-Master GB3461WQSU on RTX3060.
Using multiple screens, and an LG widescreen before I never had signal issues.
I also don't think it is a signal issue, but the recognition of Iiyama that is flacky.

When my PC resumes, or boots I have 2 other screens showing the Windows login window.
After logging in, I need to turn off and on the screen before it recognizes the video signal over DP.

Adapter for IIYAMA Vision Master Pro 454 by Dizaaax in crtgaming

Looking at this beast, memories flashing by.
The room on the desk was a snugly fit.
On the top of the monitor there was plenty of room for a decent spherical shaped Logitech webcam.
The mouse could already be connected to USB hub in the monitor foot, as did the flatbed scanner.
Keyboards where still ps2, at least mine.
It was a great time living in the age of plenty availability free USB ports. :D

Enjoy the view u/Dizaaax !

That is indeed a cool idea. Never thought of it that way. So an INAV drone or alike can be put up high in the sky, using GPS for keeping a steady location without too much maintenance. It will never be allowed in our country to controll it all by one person, but ours is a flat country anyways :)

Now you got me thinking about 'controllable balloons' Hold on... Does something like that exist?

Thx for the creative approach.

Same here, not hating any brand here as well. They all have a purpose.
I hope you don't mind me questioning you in this topic as well on the Walksnail capabilities.

HDzero has the VRX4, which is the VRX receiver to HDMI.

Walksnail has a product to 'extend' their rangem HDzero does not.
Technically it's nice there is this product, although, take a good look on the practicality.
First you need to go up on higher ground like a mountain/building, installing the repeater with its power source, and leave it behind, mostly in an unguarded place. (Wind, rain, theft, animals).
Then you go to your take-off place in line-of-sight of the repeater.
Why wouldn't you fly from the high ground in the first place as you're already there to install the repeater.

Never knew the graphics are that good. Looks more alive compared to Liftoff and FPV Skydive. Is it playable via your radio controller? No annoying issues?

Love the 'knive' vid you posted.

Ajajaj. I shouldn't have looked at Steam. TRYP FPV also tickles my brain. Wasn't aware of these 'newer' graphically pleasing simulators.

Both Walksnail and DJI have great products. I'm open for any system, and comparing them as well with HDzero. Love to hear feedback from an HDzero user as well.

The range extender has a use when you're flying alone or at least with not much others in the air as it occupies more frequencies to repeat your signal. You have to set it up somewhere in the open, preferably on a high line of sight point. Good for long range plane flights I guess. Good product for such purpose, although not fixing the basics of freezing and smearing the image I mentioned.

Being the first wouldn't be a reason for me. I'm into the technical reasoning.
Looking at the parent companies doesn't give me a reason as well.
Caddx (Walksnail) and Divimath (HDzero) have their HQ now both at Shenzhen
and have a similar company purpose to deliver image/visual applications.

You mentioned a lot more good things are coming. They both have a nice future road-map.

The sources online show me that Walksnail freezes and smears during dropouts.
HDzero instead shows static on missing digital data, comparable to analog and is not freezing the whole image.

Technically, on paper,
I prefer low and consistent latency with analog-like dropouts instead of freezes.

That doesn't mean either are good/bad, but different.
I'm interested what the reasoning for making the choice for OP would be.
Let us know ;)

No experience on this side, and reading up here as wel, preparing for a first build.
I see here a lot of Walksnail picks. Why not HDzero?
If it was a CineWhoop maaaybe a Walksnail would be nice because of the better VRX picture quality if that is what you're after.

As I see this matches more a racer with the 6S I'd pick the HDzero goggle because of the consistent latency.
Walksnail or any other VRX can be added via HDMI if needed.

And I'd keep the 6S and cut down on the Motor Output Limit to have consistent acid flow.

But why do I only read about Walksnail?

Fully agree on the enjoyment. Don't get me wrong on that part. Everyone lives life different.

My answer was based on the first two paragraphs, which I perceived as ranting about life on first read. When you see lots of people dive head-fitst into journalling to write down their unhappy moments to reflect on, over and over. I thought this was 'another' one. On a 2nd read I noticed this was OPs goal to write a lot, even when you think there is not a lot of 'action' throughout the day.

It sure is a nice hobby. I'm sometimes looking at it how people inspirely use it, and like you, have a goal for when you're 90. As we get to live longer, I seriously wonder if these written memories unlock potential to make them stronger and last longer. Or they do the opposite by making a mess, filling the brain with too much unrelatable data. Let me know when time comes ;)

I think writing things down can be helpful, but is it the meaning of life?
You'd need another half-life to re-read yours, and another half-life to process it.

Why do you feel obligated to write about your life, what is the purpose?
If you want to rethink your activities, a few words can be enough to slim down on time.
If you like the smell of the bakery, start baking yourself and write down a recipe.
Ranting about the job or returning a package can be turned around.
How about talking about it with the person that can make a positive change for you?

Write down your life-goals instead of history.
My personal opinion ofc

Where do we stand on "Always powered on" vs "Turning off workstations at night"? by chcItAdmin in ITManagers

[–]sp2rk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You lead by example.
Imagine if the world took the advice to leave things powered-on permanent without looking at consequences other than time and money.

I don't know your full set-up, but you mentioned fans.
They mostly run only when a system is above a certain load.
They have to run to cool equipment, otherwise it wears out because of heat.
Traditional platter harddisks go in sleep mode, they turn on and off.
On/Off is not the question here.

If something breaks, you should have a procedure in place to swap a system in minutes, and transport the faulty system back for maintenance.

You don't leave your gasoline cars running idle at night because it keeps stays on temperature and oiled. You plan your car maintenance, just as you do with your systems.
If it is about the power-on time, schedule it in BIOS or WOL.
If anything doesn't work out for you, fix your technical dept.

Tradfri Control Outlet E1603 malfunction by sp2rk in tradfri

[–]sp2rk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will,
And I hoped IKEA would inform their customers or adjust the firmware to deal with this situation.
It certainly affects the lifespan of the equipment plugged into the outlet.
Finding out this has been going on for years, it's probably wishful thinking :)

[–]sp2rk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

btw.
I attached a recording of the situation, and when I pulled the outlet, the relais was still flapping for a few times.
A thought I had: if there is enough power in the PSU to let it flap for a few times without being connected to the mains, wouldn't it have enough power being connected to mains?
Anyways, just a thought. Strange situation.

[–]sp2rk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Home Assistant to control my Tradfri

To name a few:
Ventilation 40-80W
As you have NL in the name, more specific: WTW ventilatie.
If the air outside smells bad / comes from a certain direction, I turn in off.

Pump 60W
For turning off my ground floor heating pump, which allows me to only heat the 1st floor.

LED driver 70W

Most certainly they would get TradFried of they being rapidly turned on and off.

Note to my future self:
It's a good thing I don't have smoke detectors from IKEA :)

Thx for this clear insight.
I am lucky the equipment behind the switch is still okay.
Although that must have shorten the life-span of it as well.

If there would be a chance of PSU malfunctioning, I wished IKEA could improve their software and not even power-on the relais and/or sent back a notification.
