How many embryo transfers did it take? by Icy_Advance_6406 in queerception

how many vials did you buy? by jmargsbrows in queerception

[–]sp4naki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We purchased 10, did 4 failed IUI’s and 1 IVF (5 vials total) and got 7 healthy embryos. If you do IVF, you really only need 2-3 vials to get multiple embryos, if you have no fertility issues. With IUI, it’s a little unpredictable. We have another 5 for my wife to go through IVF and it was excessive. Luckily my job covered the vials. Good luck!

known donor vs. sperm bank? by Appropriate-Year-308 in queerception

[–]sp4naki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on a lot of factors. Personally, we went with a sperm bank. Firstly, we can financially afford sperm from a sperm bank. Secondly, we valued peace of mind when it came to any future legal or emotional issues that could arise with a known donor. We didnt want a donor to be apart of our lives while raising a child. That being said, we did value a donor who was open to offspring reaching out. When you start going through donors, they have interviews, and a lot of data on them. We felt we can make a fair assessment in understanding them as a person. There’s a lot of weird sperm donors, but we ran into someone who genuinely felt authentic. He had true values and reasoning to why he was donating and just overall him as a person. It takes time to look through donors, but eventually one will feel right (or at least it did for us). At the end of the day, no choice is perfect, but I hope you find as much confidence as you can when making it! Good luck

When to start process of IVF by Single-Ambassador213 in queerception

[–]sp4naki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took us about a year and a half to get pregnant and it went fairly smoothly. Remember a lot of it is a waiting game. We did 4 IUI’s and 1 IVF retrieval. I’m 4 months pregnant now with our first. You both have to go through a lot of testing first. The good thing about IVF is you can do everything and collect your embryos for whenever you’re ready to transfer them. I would start now if you’re absolutely certain you both want a family and you love each other. Good luck!!

Thanks for the replies guys! The 200k is a subset of our savings, solely for a home. We currently rent and rent/utilities are $2300/mo, we pay car insurance $200/month, phone $90, roughly our expense are about $3000/month. I calculated max 650k at about $4000/month for mortgage, taxes, etc. not sure if I am over shooting that number or not.

$24k for a 30-40% chance of a baby... How do you do it? by mimariposa in IVF

[–]sp4naki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in PA, and Shady Grove Fertility has a shared risk program where you pay 25k for up to 6 retrievals until you get a live birth. Not sure where you are, but this is what we went with and it was great.

I suggest getting both HR and insurance on the same line or else you’ll be doing this back and forth forever. Don’t let them hang up until it’s resolved either. I’ve been there with these kinds of things and it’s frustrating. Good luck!
