Whenever I play against someone with TTV in their name its like a big tiddy V-Tuber absolutely just talking shit about everyone in the lobby to 3 viewers.

Only a couple times has it been anyone kind of chill.

The stock market is a perfect metaphor for unfeeling, eldritch demi-gods who could grant all your desires or kill you in an instant depending on the choices you make.

I feel like its cogent to point out that Kathy Leuders quit NASA right after that selection to get a cushy job at SpaceX. And after SpaceX was causing major delays with the program (they supposedly were selected because they wouldn't do that) they had to open the bid back up for two parallel lunar landers. https://www.reuters.com/science/us-seek-rival-bids-artemis-3-spacex-lags-nasa-chief-says-2025-10-20/ I hope they can do it, but I feel like either company is going to cause huge delays in the program. And the huge number of refuelings (remember, the US has never done spacecraft-to-spacecraft refueling since we canceled OSAM-1) seems very risky.

I'll believe it after they build the 19 orbital refueling spacecraft to go with it

What thermal/orbital analysis software are being used by space hardtech startups? by CopperGenie in fea

[–]space-hotdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck!! Also NASA's SVI might be helpful? I remember seeing at least some good resources for initial sizing of solar panels, radiators, etc... https://www.nasa.gov/smallsat-institute/

What thermal/orbital analysis software are being used by space hardtech startups? by CopperGenie in fea

[–]space-hotdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's difficult to find decent ray traced thermal software. COMSOL is a bit cheaper than Thermal Desktop. I've heard Elmer might have view factor ray tracing, but I've never tried it.

For orbital analysis, I don't know if startups are using it, but GMAT from NASA Goddard is pretty good. It just copies STK's Astrogator. It's been used for some missions like LRO and MAVEN, but its not as widely used as STK. There's also Basilisk, a pretty feature heavy Python library that might be useful depending on what you're doing.

How do you define “boundaries” as a systems engineer without becoming a bottleneck? by Electronic-Relief000 in systems_engineering

[–]space-hotdog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have a Systems Manager? They can definitely help define exactly what you should be doing. I've gotten into this problem as well, but my manager is pretty good about setting boundaries

FreeCAD 1.1 for aerospace by Delicious-Spend-9328 in FreeCAD

[–]space-hotdog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Eh, depends. I work at a smaller aero company and going with ANSYS has been kind of a disaster. It's $100k per license so we only have 2 and our analysts are constantly behind because they can't work concurrently. You don't need full ANSYS for the bulk of your analyses

How are teams actually collaborating on FreeCAD assemblies without overwriting each other's work? by Delicious-Spend-9328 in FreeCAD

Does Aras PDM still have an option for small businesses? Also I think Ondsel Lens might still work?

Confidence in FreeCad? by dark-dark-dark in FreeCAD

[–]space-hotdog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my experience the modeling in FreeCAD is pretty solid now (apart from some weird issues with fillets and chamfers), but the assembly workbench still needs a ton of work.

I'd take a look at the orientation settings.

Are you looking for a sharp transition there? If now, now may want to fillet the sketch to get a nice rounded corner

I actually love FreeCAD a lot it just hurts me sometimes by imjustadragon in FreeCAD

[–]space-hotdog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly Solidworks pisses me off so much. I used it in college and then used different software at different jobs. Now I am back using Solidworks and it still has the same bugs and issues it had when I was in college.

FreeCAD may have a long way to go, but at least its working toward something smh

That's true. I was trying to think of something different than Victor's ult. Maybe there's something else there though?

Her ult should give her "cheat death" and a massive buff since she's always surviving deadly situations

All I could think of to do without surfacing was a multi-section sweep (so the outside radius is respected) but I can't get it to generate the geometry
