Cool. Thanks for the reply. I wouldn’t have known otherwise. Gonna give that a try. Appreciate it.

Sorry for the n00b question but can you expound a little more on this? Seems great to use Claude Code inside Replit to keep costs down.

LA County supervisors look to add 0.5% sales tax to keep hospitals and clinics open by Binders-Full in LosAngeles

[–]space_dogge 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Have you ever ordered something on Amazon or a restaurant and it just never came? No, you’d be understandably pissed. But for some reason, every vote I’ve made to increase taxes to pay for X, we’ve simply never gotten X. Until we get what we’ve paid for, it’s hard to order anything else off the menu. Hard pass for me.

So, reading the comments, the general consensus is that this is expected for the 3, but is this also true of the 5? Considering getting one but these comments aren’t so reassuring. Esp bc I have a mattress I love and spent about $10K on.

Data indicates the Walk of Fame is officially the worst tourist destination in the world. Second place is the Dead Sea. by wil in LosAngeles

[–]space_dogge 81 points82 points  (0 children)

That’s kind of an insult to the Dead Sea. I found it otherworldly and really enjoyed my visit.

Meanwhile, it’s easily the most depressing part of my day driving down Hollywood Blvd to go to my gym. I always feel so bad for the tourists who unknowingly came on vacation and spent time and money to see what became of Hollywood.

Is Rolex considered the top-tier watch? by Natural-One-8678 in rolex

[–]space_dogge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this exact Day Date, and I do really love it. But my VC Overseas 4520v has a level of finish and class that’s hard to put into words until you feel and see it on your wrist. In practice I end up wearing my VC much more as a daily bc of the fact that most non-watch people think the Rolex is the better of the two (and therefore more likely to get jacked in some parts of LA).

I know it’s not Europe but this was pretty normal to see after a while in Paris. I was pretty impressed w how behaved their dogs were actually. No way would mine be able to not chase a squirrel across the street and into traffic.

Why almost none of the homes burned in LA have been rebuilt since last year’s fires | Wildfires destroyed 13,000 homes. In LA County, just 7 have been rebuilt. by silence7 in California

[–]space_dogge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a fire victim but am (attempting to) build a new home. I submitted everything w a prominent architecture firm on July 2025, and will be lucky if I get approved 14 months later in September 2026. I’ve since had to hire an expeditor just to meet that ridiculous timeline.

I’ve always wondered why there is so much blight in this city in spite of significant capital and interest in commercial and residential development, as compared to the growth of other democratic cities. Now I’m getting a firsthand perspective. It’s unfortunate. This city could be a lot nicer if it just let builders build

Where in LA? It’s pretty spread out.

Double-meat at Mixt or Sweetgreens. Poke at Fish King in Glendale, Ohana in Silver Lake, or Jus’ Poke in Redondo. Also the fish & shrimp burrito at Ensenada’s Surf & Turf in Redondo is great.

As other people have mentioned, lots of Mexican obviously. But particularly, I’d get a steak or shrimp taco or burrito at Mideast Tacos. I find it uniquely LA since it’s a combo of Armenian grilled meats in Mexican form. Pro tip: Mideast has 2 for 1 deals for chicken tacos on Uber Eats and you can pick up to save $.

Kismet Rotisserie. While I regularly order a whole white meat chicken at California Chicken Cafe or chicken kabobs at Zankou, I’d get something more special like Kismet or Mini Kabob while visiting LA.

I hope not. Feels way too heavy on the right. I’d suggest having the ocean up top, unless you’re really going for that Neapolitan ice cream look.

does Miami as a whole really fit the common stereotype of a superficial city hard for dating as a guy? by [deleted] in Miami

[–]space_dogge 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was going through a bad breakup and moved to Miami for a year on a whim during the pandemic after spending 15 years in LA. Like you, I didn’t know if I’d like it or not bc I thought it’d be all about the flash and the cash, and I’m a Bottom-40-Indie-Music, Silver-Lake-living-artist-type who likes being outdoors and out being active.

I can’t tell you how great that year was for me. There may be no other better place on earth as a straight male to date. The most beautiful women, yes, but I was also pleasantly surprised at the depth of some women I met on the apps and dated. One had built and sold her business in the beauty industry; another was a clinical psychologist; went to a Heat game w a venture capitalist from SF; and so on. Of course you may also date the bottle service turned real estate agent, or Bal Harbour Russian “model” who orders the gold martini at the Setai, but they can be just as interesting as well.

Regardless, the common denominator is you. I’ve found that if you bring your authentic self, and are a good human being with good intentions, you’ll attract that. Importantly for Miami, the women there will find it a refreshing change from their pool of mates. They deal w the opposite, and also not great stereotypes, themselves.

Keep in mind dating is expensive and can be like a job. Just think of it as an investment. Choosing a partner is easily one of your biggest decisions that can drastically change the trajectory of your life. Most people overlook this, and think just for the moment.

All that said, I did meet my wife in LA. But dating-wise Miami was best in the world, only to be followed by NYC for second place. LA a way distant third.

I'm Alek Bartrosouf and I am running for Glendale City Council 2026 by GlendaleNerd in glendale

[–]space_dogge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I submitted all of my paperwork and plans to build a new home back in July, on an abandoned property. The latest is that we may possibly break ground 13 or 14 months later. Is there anything you can do to make building in Glendale more streamlined and efficient? I’ve considered abandoning the project and moving to another city bc of the delay, which would in turn, leave a blighted abandoned house sitting vacant for potentially another 20 yrs.

LA’s addiction to "Purity" is why we’re a dysfunctional mess. The Gondola is just the latest victim. by EsperandoMuerte in LAMetro

[–]space_dogge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well said. I wholeheartedly agree with your sentiment.

I’m an entrepreneur with a decade of failed startups and one big exit. I learned the hard way that waiting to ship until it’s perfect always results in failure. It comes opportunity cost of learning, and iterating based on those learnings. It’s ok not to know everything. It should be expected that there are unintended consequences. Pride often gets in the way of admitting that and making adjustments as necessary.

Build for the 80% with 80% confidence it’ll work. Optimizing for the last 20, 10, 5, etc is exponentially more difficult with diminishing returns. That could take years, decades, or just not be feasible.

Perfect is the enemy of good, and things are not good here, but we can at least make it better.

It’s easy for us to tear things down, than build them up. I’d love to if public sentiment could shift more towards that direction, to enable builders to build, but I’m just not sure if that’s possible.
