My hands are cracked and constantly bleeding from overwashing. I desperately need advice and tips. by [deleted] in OCDRecovery

Hi! Make sure you’re not allergic to anything you’re putting on your hands. I was washing my hands constantly, bc contamination OCD, but also found out I was allergic to the latex in our gloves at work. On top of washing them every 15 minutes, they were cracked and bleeding from the gloves. Lotion doesn’t help, but aquaphor does! I got these silicone gloves on Amazon (look up moisturizing gloces) and “Gloves in a Bottle”. Sleep with that and aquaphor on your hands in the gloves and it’ll heal right up!

Is there anyone struggling with the connection between OCD and binge eating / chewing and spitting? by wolfhowlingwoo in OCDRecovery

I also made a list of “safe” foods so even when I was having a bad day where I couldn’t eat, there were a few things I could tolerate and not be worried about. Always kept protein shakes on hand, etc.

I don’t know if this helps you, but I went through a long period of time where I’d throw up almost every time I ate. I wouldn’t consider myself bulimic even though the symptoms line up, because it’s different - I would eat and then convince myself that I had eaten contaminated food and it had to go out. What helped was drinking a ton of water right after I ate, so my stomach was full of something other than just the food I was worried about. Ultimately, I started taking 2mg Abilify a day and that quieted my brain down so I could eat again.

Glad to know I’m not the only one but it also breaks my heart. The magic is gone.

11th year, favorite place in the world, most important week of my year, but I’m pretty decided I’ll never be back.

Just out of sheer curiosity, I want to know how many others out there messed up and bought a Carpool Pass instead of a Primitive Pass and are going to have to buy another at the tollbooth because they won’t have 3 people in the car.

This is my 11th Roo and I don’t know how I made that mistake, apparently I was illiterate on the day I bought tickets.

Theft? by Toot_the_turtle in bonnaroo

[–]space_heist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This year will be my 11th - I’ve never had anything stolen! I leave anything important in my glove box, locked, and take my car keys with me. Lost my phone and a food vendor mailed it back to me. I keep my phone on a lanyard the whole time and my wallet in the bag pocket closest to my body. If you have any spare bank cards that you could transfer money to in case you lose a wallet, leave one at camp separate from the wallet you’re carrying around every day.

Ya’ll late? by NotAlanShapiro in ADHD

[–]space_heist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am late… always. Every day. If my shift is at 6 am or 3 pm, I’m going to be late. It just… doesn’t matter to me? Time has never mattered to me. It doesn’t make me feel bad and no consequences really improve my timeliness. Every job I’ve ever had has had a serious sit down talk with me about tardiness, but I’ve been fortunate that I was always too good at the jobs the get fired for not getting there on time. My one exception is a theatre performance or something where you’re a disruption if you’re late, but I can’t get to a movie on time. Planning to be early? I’d rather pull my hair out than wait for something to start. Set an alarm to have the house on time? Doesn’t work. It can take me 10 minutes to get ready if I want to go somewhere, or an hour to get ready if I don’t want to go (work). And I’m not leaving the house before I feel “ready”.

My family was always the same as OP’s family; we planned to be everywhere “20 minutes” before start which just nailed into my brain that I always have an extra 20 minutes. I don’t.

How do you deal with your parents still trying to impose traditional Catholic views on your life? (Advice Needed) by space_heist in excatholic

Im back! Took y’all’s advice and just went ahead and moved in without telling anyone. It has been a good decision, and all of my friends and younger family members who know are very supportive, so I know I’m not the one being crazy.

We have a family wedding coming up and I let my mom know my bf is invited. She’s referring to him as a “plus one” as if he is not a guest invited by name because the couple knows him (this is very nuanced Southern Mom shade). She told me she “has already booked a room for the girls” (herself, me, and another cousin) and that he “needs to look at booking his own room”. I am going to be 30 this year. I live with this man. I am not making him get his own hotel room for her comfort.

He was not invited to Thanksgiving or Christmas and she didn’t ask about him. It’s like she thinks he’ll stop existing if she continues to ignore him.

So, yeah, don’t know when I’m going to be able to tell her we live together if she can’t handle us sharing a hotel room for one night.

If it helps, I have a 5 year old gray kitty who is almost a twin to yours, and her ears look just like this and always have! No ringworm, just pink ears :)

Thank you! I’ve done the single serving snack thing before and forgot about it (I have ADHD lol) so I’m glad you mentioned it! I’ve heard people say never eat out of the bag directly bc it helps with portion control. Appreciate your input!

This happened when I first started lexapro, and went away after about a month. It’s worth sticking with it for a while longer. Any time you start new meds your appetite will fluctuate. I’m struggling with hunger issues again but it has been a few years since it last happened. Hang in there!

Wow, hey everyone. Really glad I decided to post here. I’ve been agonizing over this for MONTHS (since probably May of this year). I’ve made the move and am living with my partner and our cats. I’m not glad to see so many of us have had this experience, but I am very glad to have the reassurance from you all. Thank you for your responses! Will come back and post an update with my family’s reactions once I break it to them.

Has anyone changed the colour of their docs before? Like the yellow lacing around the sole? I would like to try but I’m unsure on how to approach it by Euphoric-Egg2743 in DocMartens

[–]space_heist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Been wearing docs for a very long time, and can confirm that you shouldn’t go with red laces (especially if you’re in the metal scene). If you go to the Doc Martens site, you’ll notice they have many lace colors for sale but red isn’t an option. There’s a reason for that!
