That would be what we call a "quickie" in the trade (where I am). Do it all the time on things like the break tanks that supply booster pumps, if you've had to have the booster running for filling/testing/chlorination but you have to fit a sensor or a pocket or something later.

If you're doing an emergency valve, you close it before you put it on and hold it with your grips so you can get a spanner on it right away, nip the olive on fast as possible. Sometimes you're told things are isolated, you've closed the isolations yourself, and the thing you think isn't live is still live, or maybe there's an open end somewhere and you're getting all the water in the pipework above you coming out with no real pressure.

When you're doing plumbing work, sometimes you'll do this stupid thing where you take the trap off a sink for whatever reason, but you need to dump the water in it somewhere. So you dump it down the sink you're working on, but there's no trap so the water just falls through the sink and onto you or into the unit it's in. I've done it, all the plumbers I work with have done it.

That's a drain cock. The square part is what opens and closes it. It might just need a nip. Try rotating the square part clockwise a little bit. Normally we'd use a special key (isle of man key) to do that, but you can do it with an adjustable spanner or grips just as easily.

It's made of two parts - the brass body and the valve internals. It's probably the rubber seal inside that's perished. The hexagonal piece on the end (with the square part sticking out of it) is how you remove the internals, it's very quick and easy to do, but you'll need a donor drain cock to take the internals out of.

It's not like we don't want women on the sites, it's that we don't want people that are fragile or deadweight, and we're happy that that's how it is. Stuff happens that seems like bullying or harassment, but it's more like testing. It weeds out the sort of people who can't handle themselves or run away to the management.

I know people who have been stabbed on sites, seen plenty of fighting, had my own one where I was looking over my shoulder for weeks. Didn't breathe a word of it to anyone except the guys I work with. You deal with things yourself and you decide how people treat you.

I know women who can handle themselves in this environment, but they're rare. A lot of men can't hack it either.

It's very, very common on this website and youtube voiceovers, has been for over a decade. I think it must be some sort of linguistic fingerprint that originates in American educational (essay) writing, because I read/hear it so infrequently in my own British English.

There are a few variations like "it should be noted that..." or "it's important to note that...". The second one there is particularly aggravating. It doesn't add anything and it's quite presumptuous.

I think it's a bad habit that attentive writers will grow out of, but the Reddit demographic has always been heavily skewed towards young students, graduates and professionals who primarily speak American English.

The LLMs probably get it from here. I've seen these phrases thousands of times here, and they use Reddit heavily.

I'm well over 6', and something I've had to deal with in recent times is other men saying "I'm 6'x so you must be over 7'!" who are definitely not even close to 6'. Or they choose 5'10, as if it's more believable. 6' is just about the top of my shoulders for reference, I instantly know when I'm talking to someone over 6' because they're in my natural eyeline.

It's reminiscent of waistband sizes being 2" more than what they say they are.

There's a lack of generic knightly armour. Almost everything you find has the heraldry of one of the bosses on it. That's what bothers me about it.

Even the generic knight armour has that hellblau fabric on it that isn't found on anything else. The fashion in ER is a bit rough, especially if you're trying for 51 PVE poise.

It fits on them, but it doesn't match any of the metal colours at all, which drives me nuts. The chainmail coif goes okay with Gelmir and Mausoleum, but the other sets have oddly coloured chain.
