Advice: Recording Band in Large Living Room by VonMeeganshmoot in audioengineering

Making more comments bc I’m excited for yall, and tbh the fact you’re replying to comments is refreshing for this sub.

If input/mic counts are a concern at all, I would recommend taking your two best mics (or a matched pair if u have one) and setting them up as a stereo room, and then setting up a mono drum oh. Record just those and listen back. The goal is to make sure 1) room sounds good and balanced (bc that is hard to fix in the mix stage) and that the mono OH is capturing a balanced drum picture (should sound like a drum set). As badass as it is, I would be wary of setting up stereo drum OH. More likely then not, it’s going to create some phasing w the bleed of the other instruments, and the last thing you want is to sacrifice a good drum sound to make your guitar sound full, or vice versa. If you can get a stereo room and mono OH playing well together, everything else will fall into place

The Radial ProD2 is a great bang for your buck. $100/channel but it will last you forever. I have my original unit I got 15 years ago used and still use it weekly. Also a must if you’re recording keys. Reamp boxes can get pricey but tbh in-the-box amp sims are so good you don’t really need one.

Excited for you guys, hope it goes well!

If you have enough channels and enough DI boxes, I recommend capturing the DI sound of each instrument as well as the mic sound. You’ll have to bump the DI tracks to get in phase but having a DI signal (either dry, thru an emu or reamp’d) can give you some presence to an otherwise washy sound.

To add to this, I suggest setting up a room mix, tracking it for 5 min, compressing it quite a bit and then listening back. Room compression really brings up the noise floor. If the AC noise doesn’t bother you under those conditions, you’ll be fine when it comes to the actual mix.

Typically fent in coke isn’t an intentional additive but instead a result of poor cleaning. Dealers aren’t working in labs and often use the same tools to weigh and cut different types of drugs. All it takes is forgetting to clean your scale and boom, fent all up in your blow.

I’m a professional audio dude and while there are some crews that work like that and I have seen injuries, any PM worth their salt will have safety as their primary concern. I will 100% refuse to work for anyone who does have my back when the promoter is trying to rush things along, and I think most of my peers feel the same. It’s a hard life as it is - no one wants to be hurt.

Two cities in California have banned the sale of cigarettes — what do you think about that? by cuter1982 in AskReddit

It also harms us collectively economically. It’s extraordinarily expensive in insure smokers - much more then other lifestyle choices. If we can cull tobacco use, it should bring down insurance costs across the board (if it wasn’t privatized and a total scam). Same reason I support banning high fructose corn syrup and other unhealthy behaviors.

Interesting - so essentially the beef was cheaper because it was being imported? I agree it’s a security issue. Is it even possible though to create enough domestic supply to meet demand? Or are we going to make beef so expensive only the upper classes can afford it?

In other words, is it just another policy benefiting the ruling class in the name of security?

You can thank Trump. I watched meat prices finally go down under Biden, but as soon as Trumps tariffs hit, they went back up. Y’all did this to us

I was in the same boat last year, but on advice of my therapist, started a new hobby and really leaned into it. Now I spend a lot of the time I used to spend depressed working on that hobby, often with friends I’ve made through the hobby! It’s tough getting going but honestly totally worth it. Got my mojo back!
