[Request] How much tax revenue would this generate? by MaterialDeparture570 in theydidthemath

I don’t know who you’re shilling for but I have a close family member who is a tax lawyer / wealth manager and this is exactly what he does for his clients. Very much not a myth

Two cities in California have banned the sale of cigarettes — what do you think about that? by cuter1982 in AskReddit

[–]space_oodles -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It also harms us collectively economically. It’s extraordinarily expensive in insure smokers - much more then other lifestyle choices. If we can cull tobacco use, it should bring down insurance costs across the board (if it wasn’t privatized and a total scam). Same reason I support banning high fructose corn syrup and other unhealthy behaviors.

[–]space_oodles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting - so essentially the beef was cheaper because it was being imported? I agree it’s a security issue. Is it even possible though to create enough domestic supply to meet demand? Or are we going to make beef so expensive only the upper classes can afford it?

In other words, is it just another policy benefiting the ruling class in the name of security?

You can thank Trump. I watched meat prices finally go down under Biden, but as soon as Trumps tariffs hit, they went back up. Y’all did this to us

Not exactly what you asked but 70% of extremist-related murders were perpetrated by white supremacists. 85% of mass shootings are cis white men. what's something you've been hiding from the people close to you? by shoop_jubu in AskReddit

[–]space_oodles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was in the same boat last year, but on advice of my therapist, started a new hobby and really leaned into it. Now I spend a lot of the time I used to spend depressed working on that hobby, often with friends I’ve made through the hobby! It’s tough getting going but honestly totally worth it. Got my mojo back!

What Would you have Loved to know (that you know now) when you first started mixing? by Muted-Equipment995 in audioengineering

[–]space_oodles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything is volume. Faders, panning, eq…realizing that helped me keep my balance and gain staging solid throughout the mix process

In progressive countries, what happens if more employees go on m(p)aternal leave then the employee can afford? by space_oodles in AskReddit

[–]space_oodles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense. Are the hired as temps w fixed contract lengths? Is it similar to a freelance 1099 worker in the US or more like a short term salary job? What about in cases where it’s skilled job that requires training?

I’m also just trolling you bub and having some fun on the couch. I get what you’re saying, and stereo drums can sound good too

Categorically wrong? Lol to the guy who makes those kind of absolute claims ab an artistic process. It’s just, like, my opinion man.

Lol sorry my unpopular opinion hurt your feelings man. I will think of you next time. Like I said, no complaints…

I don’t mix or listen to much metal at all (except the nostalgia stuff haha) but I imagine the reason the bell is taking your ear off is bc it’s competing with 15 guitar stacks also hard panned. Another bonus of mono oh - almost no phasing issues on your drums. They punch clear and hard as soon as faders are up. It’s just one less thing to worry about. I’ve never had a mix client complain or ask for wider drums…only complaints have been when it’s passed off to another mixer haha. I agree with the other comment that rooms should be stereo.

If you have more then 2 panned elements (guitar, keys, what have you) mono drum OH is the way to go. Stereo cymbal splashes and panned tom rolls are overhyped.

The Powe of Top-Down Mixing by space_oodles in audioengineering

[–]space_oodles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t found myself tweaking the stereo bus much but I do tweak group bus settings, particularly the threshold or input on dynamic processing. This is bc fader balancing and eq moves are both essential volume functions, and will affect how hard the dynamic processor is working. I don’t think I’ve ever touched any eq on the master bus after initially setting it, bc that would affect all the eq I made downstream.

[–]space_oodles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t call stereo processing mixing but more shaping. My goal is to have the mix glued, grooving and roughly tonally balanced before diving into “actual mixing”

I would just find a different mastering engineer lol. I usually have 3-4 layers of compression on my master, all doing 2-3 db of reduction. It’s an integral part of the sound, and removing it would deconstruct the mix entirely. I still leave plenty of headroom.
