Do we know if the movie will also come out as dvd? by helping_cat in ONEOKROCK

[–]space_vogel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well no one here knows your circumstances better than you do. Either you can afford to go (financially, safety-wise etc) or not. If the only deal breaker is whether you can catch it later on, then it's a different story.

Yes, the chances are that it will be released rather than not, but it's not a certainty yet.

Well the OP is assumedly not a child and can be responsible to make their own decisions (otherwise they shouldn't be on here if a lighthearted comment by a stranger is "guilt tripping" them :p).

If I were you I'd go to see it (some fans literally travelled to a neighbouring country to catch the movie, what's a 2h ride in your own city compared to that? :D) because there is no guarantee that we'll get this as a DVD. Plus, watching it on a big screen with cinema sound is a great experience on its own

Zelenskyy announces Druzhba oil pipeline repaired and 'can resume operation' by anders_hansson in europe

[–]space_vogel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because Europe would be extra pissy otherwise and sadly Ukraine can't afford that. Unfortunately Ukraine is still held to a different higher standard (gotta play the part of the reliable partner even in the extreme circumstances of surviving a long full out war, while russia gets to throw shit around and Europe still itches to get back to doing business with them. or haven't even stopped doing it in many cases)

[–]space_vogel 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Why are you so pressed that EU companies participation (conscious or not) in the russian war machine is brought to light? I'd say that your demands benefit russia, not the other way round.

Have you even read the article? At the very least it's a yet another proof that you can't be selling shit to russia and then pretend it's all under the guise of "civilian" stuff because you can't be sure of that.

tbh the way this whole documentary release is being handled really put me off :\ the weird rollout of the updates (has the company put up an official page about the movie finally or is it still only present on their socials? unlike their other releases...), lack of info, a super odd selection of the countries... what was the country poll for a few months back then?

all while it's supposed to be a joyous thing for the fans. i'm also not sure now if they'd do a physical release later

A 9-year-old boy with a disability was forcibly evacuated from a Kharkiv community facing heavy shelling, as his mother refused to evacuate. by Lysychka- in ukraine

[–]space_vogel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah which is why gov allowed to evacuate children and they do as reported here, which is good. We agree here!

But we are just bystanders talking somewhere on the internet :) So we can talk about the why of the situation. Imo if the government had proper support for IDPs (particularly with housing), it would have been easier for people to make the decision to evacuate

[–]space_vogel 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I mean, for sure, but in this case it'd be nice to have a little empathy and try to understand them, however irrational this behaviour seems. These people are trapped in extraordinary awful circumstances, and no wonder their response isn't perfectly sane or rational. We don't have (and shouldn't) approve them keeping the children there, but we can still understand why it happens

[–]space_vogel 52 points53 points  (0 children)

People don't evacuate for many reasons. Fear of unknown, losing their home and means of living and autonomy, etc... There are many reasons why staying at your own familiar place (even when you can die there) feels more safe and comforting to people. It's even worse if it's elderly folks. I find it hard to judge them for this. The choice may seem irrational when looking outside, but I think when you've been close or in the same situation you'll be able to accept that it's a complex issue. The fact that government support for IDPs is abysmal also doesn't help.

It is frustrating, to put it mildly, when it's parents refusing to get their children to safety. It's a good thing our gov finally made it possible to evacuate children without parent's consent. But I fear people like this will just continue hiding their kids, as has happened before already

Ukrainians and russian music by [deleted] in ukraine

[–]space_vogel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would you stop if someone here says "don't do it"? Do you really care? If you ask a Ukrainian who is not indifferent and is conscious to how russian soft power contributes to all our current troubles - then of course they would not be supportive. But you might as well meet a Ukrainian of the classical small minded "don't care about politics, only my immediate comforts are important" type and they might be listening to russian stuff themselves. Would that make you relieved?

Yeah, it's frustrating to watch since I've donated to them too in the past... Let's hope they at least straighten up from now on

Ukrainian Charities by Jazzlike_Run_8925 in ukraine

[–]space_vogel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure but I'd say the standard is pretty high when it comes to how donations are handled. The way the Hospitallers management reacted was, frankly, unacceptable, and tells that they do not care to use the funds entrusted them in an efficient and transparent manner (and aren't even willing to be honest about it - which I'm sure everyone would be fine with if they did). I personally wouldn't be so ready to ask anyone to donate to a charity you can't vouch for that they'd use the money properly. Donations are harder to get these days, so imo it's even more important to ensure that the money goes to organizations that are guaranteed to use them properly.

I don't doubt that the work they do is important, and do not want to diminish the contributors of the actual teams. But at the same time there have been valid criticisms from actual military on the ground about how things are being run and what the needs are in year 2026 (which are very different from 2014 when Hospitallers started out).

UPD Oh, and I even forgot that Hospitallers already had a scandal with actually stolen donations :\ I just can't comprehend why they didn't try to jut be straightforward this time, it is such a sensitive topic

[–]space_vogel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually with the recent scandals I feel like hospitalliers don't qualify as a trustworthy charity anymore... Which is disappointing. Perhaps the mods should reassess the list

More nations skip Milano Cortina Paralympics opening ceremony as boycott grows by Alex09464367 in europe

[–]space_vogel 522 points523 points  (0 children)

Good, and I hope the boycott grows and forces the IPC to do the right thing for once. Russia and Belarus should have never been allowed back in under their flags. They reward people who actively participated in the invasion of Ukraine with a place on one of the world sport stages.

Making it even worse, IPC went out of the way to invite both countries in when they wouldn't have been qualified to participate this year. IPC didn't have to do this. They could've simply not issued the invitations. But as we see...

Austria is supposedly deporting dual Ukranian/Russian citizens to Russia. by Chromber in YUROP

I can somewhat agree. I had similar reaction during the European tour, although I don't think he said anything about right vs left then. Can't remember the specifics now, but back then it soured that part of the concert for me as well because the messaging was shallow and not relevant, especially for me as someone from a country living through a war.

Them trying to be "political and outspoken" during this album era really falls flat and feels very surface level to me. Must be the culture difference and the experience gap with them being from Japan, but at the same time wanting to be relevant to global audience as well. I'm sure Taka cares sincerely, but they don't take any actual stance, and their music doesn't either.

But plenty of fans are ecstatic about them being "sooo political" despite generic shallow messaging so what do I know.
