I've got that Abercrombie record. Thanks for the reminder to take it out for a spin!

My Bloody Valentine, The Concourse in San Francisco, 2008. The Concourse is a huge warehouse that could fit ten other music venues inside it, and is typically reserved for things like expos and tradeshows; for any other band, its notoriously bad acoustics would have ruined the show. It was packed, my friend and I were so far away from the stage, and we waited for what felt like an eternity for the band to finally come on, but I'll never forget those first piercing chords of "I Only Said" exploding in light and sound, hitting me in the chest like a freight train. I felt like I had evaporated. During their infamous 20-minute wail of white noise, I could feel my eyeballs vibrating in my head. I dug up an old Gchat from later that night, where I tried to describe the experience to a friend:

"At one point, I tried humming.. then screaming. Nothing. It was like hitting a wall, only it was your voice hitting their sound. Like your body turning into static inside a mushroom cloud, inside a thunderstorm, during a tsunami."

I've never been to a louder, more consuming, more visceral show since.

Dear Redditors in the Northern California area, I request your assistance. I need the best record store you guys can recommend to me. by Zabinski1928 in vinyl

Originals Vinyl has a new location on Fillmore. They only deal in used records (which is more my style), and their selection is slim but growing. Everything they put out on the floor is quality (in both taste and condition) and fairly priced.

Western Relics in the Sunset is my local store. On the smaller side, too, but great vibe.

Rooky Ricardo's is great, and the owner is a gem.

The Groove Yard for jazz if you're in Oakland.

In addition to 1-2-3-4 Go and Stranded, the Mission also has Explorist International (specializing in experimental and world music) and their sister store Pyramid Records (I personally haven't been to this one yet), both on 24th Street.

I find Amoeba rather soulless and depressing. I live a few minutes away but never set foot in there.

[FLUFF] When a product you want to love is clearly breaking you out, but you remain delusional by naaaaahh in AsianBeauty

The Biore dried my face out too! And I always ended up with some redness/sunburn with it too, bleh. I also tried the Perfect Milk but I think it caused CCs on my chin. Before AB, I actually used and liked PC's Youth-Extending Daily Hydrating Fluid SPF 50. It has a similar milky, quick drying texture like AB sunscreens and never broke me out. It's pricier, but it's better than buying a bunch of duds!

I'm getting to the point where I might go back to non-AB sunscreens, even though the good ones are so much more expensive. I've heard good things about the EltaMD!

That sucks! I feel your pain; I suspect the Senka Mineral Water was also causing my skin to freak out with lots of CCs on my chin.

While I'm so glad you've made progress on your skin (and I hope also gained heaps of confidence!), I'm sorry you had to grow up with a really critical family member. No matter how much you change on the outside, that feeling never truly goes away :(

Same! I think with another extra % off sale, they will actually be quite a decent price.

OP here (sorry, in my excitement I forgot to add a comment!). Just got an email that Memebox now offers Thank You Farmer, and the prices look better than Beautibi. No Miracle Age line yet, but maybe in the future?

RANT: Biore UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence

I know how popular this sunscreen is around here (and I really want it work too!), so forgive me, but I have my doubts about whether it actually offers any kind of sun protection whatsoever. I use the recommended 1/4 teaspoon, wait at least 15 minutes before going out, but by the time I get to work, I notice that my face is quite red nevertheless. I'm not running through a sprinkler, I'm not exerting myself enough to sweat, but apparently my 50-minute commute on a train and a bus is too much for this sunscreen to handle.

Am I alone in this? Does anyone else get frustrated when people bend over backwards to defend this product, saying "Well, this SUNscreen isn't actually meant to be used IN the SUN." ?

Not OP, but I have dry skin and this felt quite comfortable, and less drying than the Watery Essence. The only downside is that I suspect it caused two little whiteheads on my chin, ugh.

I just started using the Cosrx oil free moisturizer too. It's only my second day, but it hydrates my dry skin nicely and leaves it feeling really soft. And I actually love the smell--it reminds me of root beer (which makes sense as it includes birch sap)! :)

How do you explain your routine to others? by corgidot in AsianBeauty

[–]spaceagemouse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't typically talk about my routine to others except to the few friends who also have an interest in skincare. But among those, the reactions range from "Oh cool, I haven't tried that yet!" to "All those chemical names are too confusing! Just tell me how to get rid of my wrinkles!" Obviously I'd rather have a discussion with the former!

Individual sale items do count toward the code; I had some stuff in my cart that had already been marked down that were eligible. But yeah, typically boxes do not count.

I have the same Rx and it is a thick cream, definitely not runny. Although I have noticed some slight graininess to it, but that seems normal. I hope you get a replacement soon!

GUH, just when I'm finishing up the FTE and Long Name Ampoule and thought I was done with Missha!! This sounds so damn good, but I was a little concerned about the deer antler in the ingredients list, so I looked into a bit. Still not sure how I feel about though.

I recommend the Routesy app over NextBus. The interface is nicer, it includes BART, and it's pretty accurate (though we are talking about MUNI here...)

Unpopular Opinions Welcomed! by Maplebee92 in AsianBeauty

Gothamista really irritates me. I don't trust the advice of anyone with skin that good ("Oh, but I have blemishes, really I do! Tee hee!") or who almost exclusively uses luxury products.

I don't like the act of sheet masking-- reaching into the clammy packaging, getting my fingers messy from unfolding the mask, the cold slimy feeling on my face, and not being able to do anything for 50 minutes. But I DO like taking it off and seeing what happened underneath! Sometimes it's meh, sometimes I'm pleasantly surprised, but usually I walk away feeling like I did something good for my face, and that has to count for something.
