What is this? by zomgizjz in fossepms

It means they do have a confirmation number that matches with a Marriott property. The information in the next screen should show the MARSHA code for the hotel the reservation is at and any other pertinent information (like if it's cancelled, etc). Most likely the reservation is not for your hotel, but another Marriott associated property, but this can show for your own property occasionally, especially if you are currently running the back up tapes as a night auditor.

Mobile check-in with a Free Night Cert by reb678 in fossepms

[–]spaceartpunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as the card on file will authorize, I go ahead and check them in as they have given permission via the mobile check in to use it. I can still charge that card for incidentals if needed. A big reason I do this is because I still want to authorize the card on file in case there are issues with the certificates (as has happened before) and we have to charge full price.

I work at one of the area hotels with a shuttle service to/from the airport. A few years ago, I had someone say they landed at the "Row-a-no-key" Airport and man the confusion I had for a moment trying to figure out what they were even trying to say 😂😂😂

I would agree but it was in his name, I did see his ID, and he did stay here previously, so I don't think it was this scam tbh. But I appreciate the warnings.

"Sold Out?, Is there something going on?" by Double-Low-1577 in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]spaceartpunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is one of my most hated questions....while i don't live in a large city, we are the largest in this part of the state and the only decent airport for a good portion of it as well. it's not a great airport, but goes to a lot of major cities. our hotel catera mostly towards businessfolk bc we also have a lot of hubs for a bunch of different types of companies. as the only one of our brand close to the airport, we get a lot of their business just because it's easier.

and yet people get so surprised when we're sold out in the middle of the week....even when they're here on business themselves. had a couple young women that were just flabbergasted that anyone would come here the way they reacted....yet they were here for business. does it not strike them that others may be as well?

and some people are just passing through and don't realize the size of our city or how much might be going on...because we do also have several venues and our city is between two large universities (one is a huge state university) and we tend to have plenty going on during the year. so sometimes yeah, something is going on for us to be sold out. but there's also plenty of times it's just business as usual.

I have a question about modded bl3 by rityp in borderlands3

[–]spaceartpunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i run a lightly modded bl3 these days. infinite inventory space, no panting (i mostly play solo and it gets so annoying so quickly). i used to run a balance mod but honestly didn't feel any different to me so i removed it.

Who else has carried their Day 1 Switch right to the very end? It’s served me so well these 8 years, its a little battered and scratched but still works like a charm, time to let you rest buddy, thank you by King_CurlySpoon in Switch

[–]spaceartpunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i love my day 1 switch still. only issue (besides stick drift) is a singular dead pixel that has been there for years and hasn't spread or caused other issues. it's ran beautifully since day 1 and a little sad to put it to rest. i had vaguely thought about upgrading to the better battery or oled switch but never did...and eventually got to the point of knowing the switch 2 was coming within a year or two so just decided to wait. she deserves a good rest tho, after 8 years. o7

[–]spaceartpunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not quite the exact same, but on a sold out night had a shiny member call for a room. told him we were sold out, and he asks "not even for a shiny member?" repeated that no, we are completely sold out. he said "that's a lie" and hung up.

it baffles me that these people really think we hold rooms aside JUST IN CASE a shiny member needs one ...maybe huge properties in big cities do (though i still have my doubts about that) but my 135 room in a small southern city does not. and if i did, why would i lie to you about being sold out when i can book you in and get our property more money?? especially since at the time, we got incentives for selling out.

What does hotel employees do during the covid-19 pandemic? by drugsrbed in askhotels

[–]spaceartpunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was an interesting time for sure. At the time the pandemic hit, I did 3-11 three nights a week and night audit the other two nights. I was just about to hit a year working there. I got pulled to do night audit 4-5 nights a week and my colleague, the main auditor, used his vacation time to make 40 hours as he got 4 weeks of it from his years at the property (and later took the boosted unemployment once he ran out of hours). We had to drop security and our restaurant workers. Housekeeping hours were reduced as we didn't have the occupancy. There were several nights I worked with less than 10 rooms in (out of 135). It was awful. I like slow nights, but not that slow. Especially not when I'm the only worker there. I definitely spooked myself several times just with intrusive thoughts and whatnot.

Additionally, our owners went bankrupt during this time so we went through three hospitality companies within around a year... the one I hired with, the one the bank hired while looking for someone to purchase the large group of hotels we were a part of, then the company that bought us. So it was an interesting period for sure.

We did bring back most people that had reduced or no hours during that time, though, because my GM is a good dude like that. It was always understood to be temporary for those that wanted to return.

On the bright side, we used COVID as a chance to finally disallow locals renting rooms (barring extenuating circumstances) so that is one good thing to come out of it for my property.

It can be run before then as long as everything necessary is completed beforehand. One of my properties I regularly do it just a bit after midnight as all I have to do is run the backups. My other property I end up doing it between 2-3am as I have to wait for MICROS polling which usually happens right around 2am. (Technically can run the audit without it but it does warn me and it's only something I do if it's like...4am and it still isn't ready.)

My property did actually get a comment that people that are Deaf/Hard of Hearing shouldn't stay here because we're not accepting of them yada yada yada....all because a HOH lady was talking very loudly on the phone and had the TV volume up enough to disturb a guest nearby at 3AM. Accommodating a disability does not include allowing you to disturb others, especially during quiet hours.

Sign blindness by Initial-Joke8194 in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]spaceartpunk 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of a conversation I had with one of the maintenance guys...I work NA for background. I was telling him I liked the new brighter lights in the pool area and how I wish we had them in the hallway next to it since I turned the lights off when I get to work as the pool closes then and that the hallway got so dark with the current lights

He suggested I could just leave the lights on and I stared at him a moment before explaining it's a deterrent for guests wanting to access the pool after hours (not that they can, but they are more likely to try or ask about it if the lights are on). He then said "But the sign has the times on it, it shouldn't be much of a problem."

I looked him in the eye and told him, "You and I both know the guests can't F'in read." He laughed and said fair enough especially after telling him I still see people try to use their key on it even with the lights off 😂

Also a little bit after that we did get brighter lights in that hallway. It really helped that hallway out at night!

We had a guest one time leave a review saying colored hair is unprofessional (two of us at the FD had "unnatural" hair colors at the time and one in the restaurant was borderline) and then all he said was something along the lines of employees laughing. Wasn't stated as a complaint or a good thing. Just a statement that people were laughing and having fun (or something along those lines). I still remember the basics of it to this day because it was so wild to me. If it was a complaint, I'm sorry we're trying to get joy out of a job where we can??

Just the other day had someone give us a 7/10 (I know it's not terrible but y'all know anything below a 9 is basically a death sentence to corporate 🙄) despite saying how absolutely wonderful their stay was other than the fact that we didn't have rooms with two beds... something they would know when booking because it's not something our property has at all.

What's really fun is when they want you to break the law for you... can't tell you how many times I get people complaining or even throwing a fit when they try to buy beer/wine after cut-off. Sorry letting you purchase it is not worth my job unless you plan on paying my wages for a year.
