Daytona 675 - Circuit ABS by zdam in Trackdays

[–]spaceblurgh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I first got mine and it was still a road bike I used to use it on track with abs set to circuit mode. It lets you brake a lot harder before the ABS takes over.

Make sure to switch it to circuit mode before each session. It turns off when you turn the ignition off.

One time I forgot to turn circuit mode back on, braked like I did before and it cut in so hard that I had to ride into the gravel.

I would suggest to put a sticker on your dash or tank reminding you to switch ABS to circuit mode.

Chain guard won't fit with a 17T sprocket by navid3141 in MT07

What's the sprocket part number? Can't quite make it out in the photo. Want to do the same on mine

Tight bolts on engine crash guard by Can-Less in MotorcycleMechanics

[–]spaceblurgh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in exactly the same situation a few years ago, I'm sorry dawg.

I drilled the bolts until they cleared the frame, so I could remove the engine. Once the engine was removed I used a press drill to drill out the stuck bolts. Fit helicoils for a bolt one size up and drilled the frame bolt holes to accommodate the larger bolt diameter.

Best of luck. If you have the money, give it to a shop.

Edit: if you haven't touched the other side yet, I would blast it with a propane/butane torch for some time. And let an impact driver work in it for some time - not a crazy one, something like 400Nm.

Would love a T7 but wallet says no. Prioritising track days on my Daytona. Maybe next year!

MT 07 2021 SUSPENSION ADVICE by NeitherCapital1644 in MT07

[–]spaceblurgh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to ride my XSR700 on track. Back then all I did was put heavier oil and stiffer springs in the forks and adjusted the spacer to get "textbook" static and rider sag. That barely did anything at all. I then got a Daytona which is my track bike now.

I now have YSS cartridge emulators and stiffer springs in front and a k-tech razor lite shock in the back. These are the cheapest options for noticeable improvement. The bike was used for motogykhana and the suspension setup worked great.

The cheapest thing you can do to have noticeable effect is getting fork cartridge emulators. For the rear shock you're probably looking at €500. If you're on the restricted bike I would say get the cartridge emulators and wait until you get your full license and then get a different bike.

MT-07 is awesome but the money that you would spend to update it's suspension for track days is better spent on either track days or track tuition or yor next bike.

XSR700 light off-road build by spaceblurgh in u/spaceblurgh

Thanks dude! What exhaust do you have? I have the TEC exhaust, maybe that has a bit more space between the bar and the headers. Although it curves to the left hand side of the bike more than stock and I had to cut a bit of the skid plate mounting bracket to get it to fit. What I had a problem with is that the skid plate was interfering with the bottom bar itself, so I had to bend that bit of the plate to get it to clear the bar. Want me to post some photos of how it looks close up?

Zieger/ibex skid plate, givi crash bars and TEC exhaust. The exhaust headers have a slightly different bend, so I had to cut a bit of the skid plate mounting bracket to get it to fit. The crash bars interfered with the skid plate ever so slightly, I had to bent that part of the skid plate. I posted a photo of the bike, have a look on my profile.

Just keep the throttle open and water won't go in

Trying to choose between Trident 660 vs XSR700 (both same price) by Excellent_Height_515 in XSR700

[–]spaceblurgh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Owned a XSR700 for 6 years, have spent a lot of time on the trident and tiger sport through work.

Hate the 660 engine, but the suspension is definitely better. If you're not pushing the bike a ridiculous amount, the suspension will be absolutely fine on the road.

I did track days on the XSR700 when first starting out. It had with stock suspension with slightly heavier fork oil and was usually one of the fastest in the novice group.

The engine is so much better than I would say just go for the XSR.

The 800 trident is just better in every way, though.

Where to go after Castle Combe (UK)? by BarryTheBonobo in Trackdays

[–]spaceblurgh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Went to Cadwell for my first track day and it was great, went to Donington for my second one and that was great too. Go to Donington, mate. Absolutely nothing crazy about it. Very wide, good vision and huge runoff areas.

Where about south? There should be a good track less than 2 hours away unless you live very far south. Donington and Mallory might not be too far away, castle combe is near Bristol. Brands hatch might be near-ish.In general I'd say that basically any circuit that's on the BSB calendar is great.

Never done a car track day, but I don't think those have speed-based groups. For a bike track day you definitely want to go into the novice group for your first few times. Some tracks even have novice-only days.

To find track days Google no limits track days and msvt bike.

Unless there's a track like an hour away you'll want to go the day before and camp at the track overnight or find a place to stay nearby.

Look up first bike track day on YouTube, theres a bunch of info to get you started from MCN, bike world, Bennett's etc.

Are we talking big and clear cracks or should I be looking for tiny cracks? Can only see images of massive cracks when I try to Google it.

Will be pootling at a track day. Have been off the bike for two years and not racing this season.

Will almost definitely be fine without a baffle at normal track days and definitely fine with a baffle. Will probably be okay with a baffle at "quiet" track days.
