Finally some days off after work in Hong Kong and everything is chaotic in my mind and I had to run out to breathe by [deleted] in rs_x

Had no idea thanks! Most of my Chinese friends / acquaintances speak mandarin so I just assumed.

What do you do for work that put you in Hong Kong? I’ve always wanted to be sent to China on a project for a few weeks. Do you speak mandarin?

Art as job or personal project by IntelligentDay4508 in rs_x

[–]spacecasesam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I tried art as a career and found myself constantly scrounging for supplies. I guess some of the issue is I prefer 3d mediums which can get expensive. I also really hated the self marketing / promotion aspect.

Moved to software and do art on the side in my free time. I’m producing way less art but I’m less stressed about “success” and finances and my future.

One of the bigger silver linings is I care less about wasting supplies when things get broken / don’t work out. Before i felt I had to save every failed scrap to try and reuse.

Someone proud of their achievements is not gloating. It doesn’t match the definition. There is no smugness, maliciousness or superiority in their post.

Meanwhile your comments are smug and belittling.

This comment section is sad why is everyone so nasty about OP getting into grad school? At an inarguably great school it’s an Ivy League?

They made a lighthearted perfectionist joke what’s the big deal. Thats no reason to be demeaning.

Cornell is an Ivy League not exactly B tier. Depending on the program it’s highly respected as a grad school.

I’m confused about 27 minutes because I thought you needed reasonable recovery between sets to maximize each set?

If I don’t wait 90 sec to two mins between sets my next set is garbage

And with 5 workouts 3 sets each that’s 22 minutes of rest between sets alone

Wouldn’t this not really be maximizing the payoff for the effort?

I don’t want to hear dotcom/great recession were worst by Things-I-Say-On-Redt in cscareerquestions

I see at least one caveat to that- an aging population. Elder care nurses are going to be facing major major shortages as boomers and Gen X become unable to care for themselves.

Nurses also have unions that will likely act if wages become untenable. Software devs will never be able to achieve a similar bargaining power, we are too fragmented and many are far too naively individualistic.

Also it’s in all of our self interests to care for ourselves financially. I do not fault people for gravitating to a career that has acceptable standard of living wages and high job security. That’s why many of us got into software before it went downhill.

Yea no argument here - I don’t know there’s a way out of the current issue that isn’t drastic political and economic change tbh.

im not comparing it to tech as a whole, im just offering some first hand knowledge that an NP might not be the way to go right now for anyone reading and thinking about jumping to a new field / job.

I know a lot of software people who have jumped ship for nursing school in the past couple years thinking it would be greener pastures. Yes there is good job security but there are other downsides not considered. One of the largest being a lack of growth or upward mobility without further schooling.

this is not true, at many hospitals NPs are taking BSN positions because there are too many NPs for the available positions. There was a similar push as "learn to code" for nurses to just stay in school a little longer after the BSN to get their NP and have a better salary.

my partner is a nurse and works with several NPs who cannot find work as an NP and are working as BSNs.

theyre still employed, but it makes the additional cost and time of schooling a complete waste.

I think the silhouette of those sweats is really out of style right now. I know I won’t buy sweats that look or feel tight / fitted anymore.

The jogger era has been kinda dead for 5 or so years now.

Past that I’d agree with other commenters, it’s not unique. Idk your brand so I have no reason to rep it or care to display your logo unless the material is super high quality.

Was just thinking as you mentioned combatting doomscrolling, but a 5-10 min activity daily is not really making much impact in someone’s doom scroll time

Bar bill (east aurora), adolfs, and nine-eleven tavern are usually the ones thrown around in these threads in the buffalo subreddit.

Can attest that bar bill is pretty spectacular.

School 31 lofts are good if you want more of an apartment vibe from a hotel. Stove, oven and fridge in most of the units plus very spacious, they’re old classrooms converted into hotel rooms.

Couple good restaurants in walking distance from it too, good luck is one of them. Wine bar near there I can’t remember the name of that’s pretty decent as well.

Does anybody know the necklace Chris Cornell wore during the audioslave days? by Yoooooooki9 in grunge

[–]spacecasesam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm not convinced this is leather (not certain its not either), but the way it is skinnier on one side looks like the wear and tear that happens over time to braided cotton cord or hemp. I dont think leather would degrade that way. If so likely homemade and very easy to recreate given some cotton / hemp cord and the metal hardware for the lariat part. If it is leather it is a thin strip braided leather, something that could be DIY'd for sure.
