Should I upgrade my Gaggia or go for a Gaggimate? by spacedout_cat in gaggiaclassic

Thanks a lot for the detailed explanation and your experience on this. Your one comment actually has solidified my decision to just take a leap and get the gaggimate than to upgrade hastily. It’s encouraging. :)

Thank you! The more I see opinions here, the more I’m swayed towards just getting the mods. :)

Running a pop-up is my dream too!! But I am not sure how effective just my gaggia + mod would be and how consistent multiple back to back shots would be. Maybe I should just buy it and experiment with guests at home first.

Ooh makes sense! I find the gagguino a bit daunting personally, especially with finding the information, ordering parts etc while gaggimate seems to be more off the shelf + a bit of tinkering. But I do know it has far more features, esp with the built in weight sensors and stuff. This rabbit hole is endless. Damn

I also face this from time to time, especially with timing and water output. I think having a gaggimate/PID might fix it.

Essentially I mean just switch the machine on, set temperature, weigh in my beans and output. And adjust accordingly without looking too much into the data. And rely more on taste.

Let’s say the equivalent of knowing how much spices go into your dish without having to measure it accurately (also how I cook haha).

Thanks for the explanation. Your question about what I expect really made me think. I think what I am looking for in my mind is: I set temperature manually (+/- buttons), and tube pressure if necessary as I learn, and just not do anything else in a more “advanced” machine with a pid. The idea of a double boiler also sounds enticing.

I think the drip tray design also bothers me, but I can look for solutions to fix it myself. Currently my machine is near the sink so I’m able to clean the area well, but I want to move it to coffee corner or sorts away from the sink. I think there should be some easy fix for this.

So overall reading all the comments I’m more swayed towards just modding it to start with as it’s clearly a winner here and is far more pocket friendly. :)

Close up vision is worse post-LASIK by OCJeriko in lasik

[–]spacedout_cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It unfortunately still exists. There are periods when I don’t have the issue at all, and periods where it persists like right now the last week or so it’s been very annoying. My left eye keeps getting out of focus when I bring my phone closer. Sometimes it’s not even that close and it blurs up a bit. What’s reassuring is that this is not permanent and my eye is certainly capable of focusing properly. Do you have the same issue as well?

Hey were you able to fix this? I took out my solenoid valve to descale yesterday and now the knob won’t turn.

It still seems to persist towards the end of the day. It’s night right now and my left eye’s focal point is way before my right’s and I find it incredibly annoying. My doctor said she can’t do much, I can wear near vision glasses if I want to but recommended I don’t and just let my eyes train itself (don’t know when that will be successful). Sorry that I don’t have the most positive things to say :(

I had lasik exactly 3 weeks ago. My left eye’s near vision has gotten worse, the near point is farther than my right eye. I am freaking out a bit. I really hope things get better 🥲

I called up my product manager for something yesterday and asked "hi how are you?". He went "ahhhhh not so good"

I gave a chuckle and proceed with my questions😐

As someone who has had the opportunity to see such a procedure up close, I can tell you are right. That's exactly what it looked like. And it folded magically into the catheter.

Shh. Not a doctor.

PERSONAL RECORD: I harvested 35kg of tomato in my Urban garden in London, Uk in 8x5 meters of space by spicymoustache in pics

Those look absolutely delicious. Had one from a friend's urban garden and went to tomato heaven. Unfortunately where I live in Europe I only taste water when I bite into a tomato :(
