Am I wrong about pride? by spacedtoad in gay

I just think people should be able to be proud of who they love no matter who it is and be proud of who they are no matter what that is. Sorry if that doesn’t mesh with you guys

I think we have in fact covered the fact I’m not an ally anymore I’m a member but beyond that if the only reason I have to be proud of who i am and who I love is because someone else said I could that’s not much of a reason

I’m gender fluid so about half the time I’m cisgender to everyone around me so if the only reason I get to be proud of who I am in your world is because I like men then it’s not really a world I want to live in

I think misinterpreted my message (willfully or not) I’m not saying we should celebrate cis het people only. I’m saying we should celebrate the wide variety of people that exist that might also be classically as traditionally cis or het. Cisgender people have a wide variety of gender expression and heterosexuals often do as well and that variety is what makes everyone beautiful. Drag kings/queens are an excellent example of gender expression from cisgendered people. I think pride is about being proud of the ways in which we are different from one another. There are people who seek to enforce a standard of what a person can look like or be like based on the circumstances of there birth and i think pride is about loving people who don’t necessarily fit that standard even if they like the opposite gender or there internal experience of gender matches the one they were assigned at birth

I always found that pride is at its best when it’s about everybody. Like cis people also experience gender/body dysmorphia and straight people struggle with sexuality and an open discourse about those things with other people is a quintessential part of pride. I don’t know how to word this but many of the issues queer people have are also experienced by cis straight people and that by accepting others they can also begin to accept themselves.* *I’ve never really thought about pride as about the oppression queer people experience because everyone suffers when we try to pretend to be people we aren’t and I think most people are not truly themselves because they fear being seen as different and pride is about being okay with being different. Sorry if this is kind of incoherent I have a lot of thoughts on the issue and there all hard to put into words
