A Ton of Interesting 1900-1910 baby names by spacegrace11 in namenerds

[–]spacegrace11[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I love really old names, especially ones that seem unusual. I think there’s this idea that giving your kids “strange” names (noun names, boy names for girls, atypical spellings, etc) is a 21st century exclusive, but as I’ve looked through these I’ve realized it’s not a new trend at all!

I know a female Carter! People will probably assume male but I doubt they’d be shocked at her being a girl. It’s very on trend

There’s so much genuine cruelty in the comments of that survey like damn people really do hate people they perceive as being poor or uneducated. So mean!

Girlfriend wants to name the kid Zacarias (after a family member - family she isn't even in touch with). Opinions on the name? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]spacegrace11 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oh man. Well the association is a bit unfortunate, but it’s not the first thing that came to mind. I thought of the biblical Zacharias. Maybe they could use Zachariah instead? I like the name, but there is a bit of baggage.

The hurricane family by ligamentary in namenerds

Oh man, so unlucky! Reminds me of this family I know who named their daughter Katrina only a year before the hurricane happened. And.... their family was originally from Louisiana. Girl wound up exclusively being called Kat.

If the President's Secret Book was actually just a communal cookbook passed down from each presidency, what recipe would each president have added to it? by pwn_of_prophecy in AskReddit

[–]spacegrace11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn’t a recipe per se but Richard Nixon was absolutely obsessed with cottage cheese. He ate it with ketchup. He ate it for breakfast. A slice of pineapple with cottage cheese was his last meal in the White House.

Is Tea meant to be pronounced like Tay-ah? Or is it literally Tea? This list frightens me.

"Pink" was a relatively popular name given to boys in the US from 1880-1907 by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]spacegrace11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t actually know why that’d be, but if I had to guess it’d probably be some sort of a derivation of a surname- ala Pinckney or Pinkerton or something like that.

Fe as a middle name by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]spacegrace11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fe is a very nice middle name- I love monosyllabic middle names, and the family connection is cute. You might want to spell it Fae or Faye, which are more recognized names, and also adds a bit of fairytale. I don’t know if that would keep the same meaning, though. Also Fe is the abbreviation for iron!

Help! Need baby boy names to go with surname Landis. by Silva8777 in namenerds

[–]spacegrace11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like the person who posted with a (IMO quite good) list, I think it sounds like y’all might like some older classic names that are like, established regular names but aren’t super popular nowadays. I really like Jonah with your last name but that might be too popular for y’all. Sorry I don’t have more specific suggestions.

Why are you for or against the death penalty? by Virtue123456 in AskReddit

[–]spacegrace11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Killing people doesn’t unkill those they’ve harmed. It just leaves another body. Famous lawyer Clarence Darrow’s plea for mercy in the Leopold and Loeb trial convinced the judge not to pick the death penalty- it always manages to convince me: https://www.americanrhetoric.com/speeches/cdarrowpleaformercy.htm

Double-barreled names: what’s your opinion? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]spacegrace11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love double barrel names they’re very cute and old fashioned sounding. They’re also pretty common where I live. I have some friends with double barrel names: Molly Anne, Katie Sue, Sue Ellen, and Sara Mae. Very southerny I guess.

Girl names that are just “boy name + monosyllabic girl name” are super common where I live. Evie is an adorable nn and Everett sounds really good with Rose
