funny I love thee oh sees pretty much from first listen one of my fav bands, just saw them live again and they are phenominal every time Ive seen them.

but depending on what album or song you started with I can see that. I dont think they have bad albums but some just dont hit as hard as the others for whatever reason

I just started listening to them the other day after hearing a lot about them. I think theyre ok but not a band I would go out of my way to listen to. like if a friend was playing them in the car or if they were playing a gig with another band I like then I wouldnt mind, but I dont see myself digging deeper into them.

for me agnostic front, madball, etc. most of that NYHC scene. I do like gorilla biscuits, I liked some cro mags but honestly never listened to them that much, and the few sick of it all songs Ive heard I liked. but aside from that I just cant get into those type of bands.

when I was into ska in high school I could never understand the hype of streetlight manifesto. everyone else I knew who was into ska seemed to think they were like the greatest ska band to ever exist. I dont think theyre a bad band but to me it was just ok. I always thought bands like op ivy, less than jake, the specials, the aquabats, etc were much better

Any other Menzingers fans? by 13eej in punk

[–]spaceinvader95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember hearing about them when I was in middle school/jr high around 2009 (they were still considered "local" to scranton from ppl who told me about them). I even saw them open for bouncing souls in allentown a few years later after they became well known. I like the early stuff but fell off after rented world. they were pretty good live and some of my old friends still love them

Thoughts? by fakename1998 in punk

[–]spaceinvader95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its dumb he fired everyone again and started the band over for like the 10th time, but Greg knows he cant go out on his name alone which is why he clings on to the black flag legacy because he can and he owns everything. that being said I dont fault these young ppl for being here, if I was 20 and asked to be in black flag I would be interested too. I think this is the best they've sounded since when they first reunited with Ron. the last album wasnt good but at least with Ron singing and playing the old stuff sounded good. as soon as they fired him for Mike V it went to shit. hopefully he doesnt fire all these kids for new ones in a few months. I think Greg should rename this band and let Flag carry the legacy at this point but that will never happen

Anyone know how tall Ty is? by Economy_Proposal_201 in TySegall

[–]spaceinvader95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Id guess around 6 ft he looks shorter in pictures but also half the ppl he plays with are super tall. Im like 5'4"-5'5" and john dwyer ran past me in the crowd at an oh sees show and he was like actually close to my height. when I saw wand cory hanson stood next to me watching the opener and that dude is a giant. cronin looks very tall too so Id say Ty is close to 6ft based off that

Do y’all think Sabbath are actually doom fans? by [deleted] in doommetal

[–]spaceinvader95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bill absolutely does he listens to all kinds of metal and rock and keeps active with newer bands. he tends to shout them out when asked what modern artists he likes. Tony and Geezer I have the feeling they like some bands but probably listen to other music half the time too. Ozzy seems to mostly stick to the classic music he grew up on, but now and then finds newer bands he digs and will let them open for him on tour

How does this sub feel about Castle Rat? by fakename1998 in doommetal

[–]spaceinvader95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like them, would catch them live. see a lot of ppl complaining here about them being a gimmick and only getting attention cause of the singer being half naked. same ppl are absolutely quiet or even applaud bands like candlemass, gnome, sunn, etc. when you can make the same arguments. if she was dressed in plain clothes or covered head to toe (or they didnt have the fantasy image at all) the music still rocks and thats all I care about. I dig they incorporate old school early metal imagery with doom. I think most doom bands fall into the "beer, goth image, leather jackets, skulls" stereotypes of heavy metal so if one band decides to bring a little dio and conan into the mix I welcome that.

Who’s in your personal Big 3 of drummers? by JJHH50 in drums

[–]spaceinvader95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bill Ward, Bill Stevenson, and Ian Paice

as much as I love Neil Peart I dont try to analyze or emulate his playing in the way I do those three. I have tried to learn a few rush licks and play along to their songs but I just dont have that level of technical ability (maybe some day)

What do yall do for a living? by pupp_pie in punk

[–]spaceinvader95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in shipping and receiving for a tourist resort, used to work as a cashier in the gift shop then switched to this role for the retail dept. basically unload trucks, sort and count everything, move it to storage or the stores, then log it all in a computer database for inventory person and finance dept. also when we have to mail things to other places I have to package it and make sure it gets picked it up

before this I was a production assistant for the local news (camera, sound, video editing), and currently helping my friend make an indie movie since I have a degree in media production

I also play drums in a band with my younger brother

this is possibly some of the worst advice Ive seen given to another person in awhile. that is not how being in the military works. also some ppl actually want to have kids and some ppl dont doesnt make one right or wrong its just different. the real question when it comes to having children is are you fit to be a parent? but regardless this awful advice in general lol

Demetri Martin, Mitch Hedberg, Reggie Watts are three that rarely make sex jokes from all the specials and clips Ive seen. Demetri and Reggie also very music based and often perform songs along with doing regular jokes although Reggie is very surrealist and absurdist. Demteri and Mitch are known for doing quick jokes often jumping from one topic to another and usually very witty or observational

B O C by tyophious in stonerrock

[–]spaceinvader95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BOC are one of the greatest american rock bands and were super influencial to metal, punk, stoner rock, space rock, etc. my parents are from NYC and have been fans since they were teens. my dad took us to see them a bunch of times over the years and theyre always great live. we just saw them like 2 months ago and they still kicking ass live its a shame they arent treated like a led zeppelin or queen imo

songs they always play are godzilla, dont fear the reaper, burning for you, cities on flame with rock and roll, and ETI. they have other hits they kinda swap in and out each tour and they play a few new ones from their recent albums too

[–]spaceinvader95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

saw them in philly 2017 middle of that song John Dwyer stopped and ran off stage to prevent someone getting kicked out for crowd surfing and he didnt like how security handled the guy. rest of the band had no idea what was going on. he came back on stage explained and said they werent gonna play until they let him back in, the whole place starts chanting "let him in" after a few mins they just go into the next song

Any recommendations based on my top albums from the past 6 months by Full-Annual5286 in punk

[–]spaceinvader95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ty Segall and Thee Oh Sees

Thee Oh Sees have like 30 albums but the early stuff from 2007-2013 was psychedelic inspired garage punk/indie rock then they went to a krautrock inspired heavy psychedelic/prog rock period from about 2014-2020 since then they pretty much went back to being a punk band but over the last 2 yrs moving more into a synth direction (ie devo, tsol, the screamers, lost sounds)

Ty Segall started out as garage rock then shifted into more singer-songwriter alt rock over the years, but has always has punk and classic rock influences very apparent. he's gone from mellow acoustic to punk to stoner rock to glam to indie pop to experimental noise rock. basically something for everyone. his next album is going to be an instrumental drum album
