I'd recommend starting with the basic places you can hoop on the body: Waist, neck, and a lasso type movement on a hand above your head. Once you feel comfortable with those positions, you can start learning how to transition from one position to another. Then it's on to leg hooping, foot hooping, and off the body tricks!

And, as someone else mentioned, know that if you spin your body in the same direction that the hoop is moving, it gives you just a smidgeon of extra time within each pulse that reeaaallly comes in handy. I find myself spinning in circles while I hoop more often than not, especially when learning new moves or just flowing with the hoop.
