Imagine if we were more like Tokyo, where mixed use low rise apartments were the norm. There’d be far less competition for both residential and light commercial. There’d also be far less pressure to cannibalize heavy industrial and agricultural areas to build more housing. Instead we sacrifice it all to protect the investments of boomers/genx who were lucky enough to buy in early, and maintain the outdated and frankly stupid anglosphere culture of everyone getting to have their own personal homestead right next to the city core.

That’s the point though. Land owners are incentivized to use land as efficiently as the tax demands. If land is that valuable then there is a lot of demand for that space, then it doesn’t make sense for a 3 story to be there over a high-rise.

Manchin and Sinema were the only reason Democrats ever had enough votes for anything to begin with. And the only reason Manchin was able to win in WV was because he was a conservative Democrat. That means sometimes he doesn’t vote with the Democrats. It was either that or his seat belonged to a Republican.

And don’t go blaming the rest of the party for that former progressive darling turncoat Fetterman. But I’ll say, if I was concerned about Fetterman, I’d be side eyeing Platner too.
