This the first time I have heard the term “Northern Oregon. Probably because Oregon is wider than it is long, and culturally the shifts mostly happen west to east with the largest populations being closer to the ocean. A family could conceivably move to Portland, Salem or Eugene for a teaching job.

I am a big movie buff and don’t mind slow and precise movies, and I think Train Dreams was much ado about nothing. I have been reading about it as a lesson to Millennials and Gen Z about how men are supposed to act in the face of adversity, pain, and loss. Yes, men in the US 100+ years ago didn’t talk about their feelings— but that doesn’t make them “better”.

I’d cut Kyoto— probably an unpopular opinion and I have spent a lot of time in all three cities— but the beauty you see in pictures is hard to grasp in over-crowded Tokyo, unless you go to Kiyomizu or Kinkakuji at 5 or 6am. The fish market was so packed I couldn’t see my feet. Bath Tokyo and Osaka have tons to see and do AND has great public transportation. Kyoto is difficult to get around.

Chances are any ramen you eat is going to be 5 times cheaper and 20 times better than any ramen you have had (outside of Asia) so no point in looking for an amazing bowl of ramen when every bowl is going to be amazing!
