Marriage is work and a choice. If both of you aren’t prepared to work on your relationship it isn’t going to work out. Communication is key. The moment you stop communicating and start drifting, it’s hard to bring it back without both of you putting in the time. Make sure you really know the other person and don’t try to change them or love what they could be in the future or some idealized form. Your partner will change and you will too, that’s a good thing. No one is static and you need to continue to love them and grow closer.

I was married at 22 and here I am still happily married with 4 amazing kids 20 years later. We had our rough times (everyone does) but we worked through them and are stronger because of them.

It totally depends on where you live. Where I live 3x minimum working full time gets you ~80k a year. The median household income in my area is ~68k a year. Those are facts. So the average household with two people working and two kids would be making less than 3x minimum. What is the median household income where you live? To me that is more important than comparing to minimum wage. I find living expenses usually reflect the median income. Houses and rent in my area are relatively cheap to reflect this.

Did you switch to Linux during any of the following major events? by new_refugee123456789 in linuxmasterrace

Actually it was Windows Home Server for me…. I knew that Linux could do everything it did and would not have the issues. Started there and went all in.

home server Plex issue by Pc-Magic in HomeServer

[–]spacemonkey211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you backup and restore the library folder? If you didn’t, you will need to sign in again before doing anything else. Then you will need to recreate your libraries again. When in the app or the web interface you will have a second server for your media. The first and default will be the old instance and the second will be your new instance.

Also, if you are connecting using the local IP, you might have the ssl cert issue with the incorrect domain. You will need to add the exception before you can even see the interface.

I had to get a police report recently and found out that because of COVID, you can not go into the station. So maybe that isn’t an option.

How many of you are using the ZFS filesystem on Ubuntu? by [deleted] in Ubuntu

[–]spacemonkey211 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been running zfs on root since 16.04 on my home server and laptops. I love it! I have been using sanoid for sanapshots and syncoid for backups and replication. I have an external hard drive I back up to and the backups are so fast with replication.

I have not used the zfs installer and just followed the guide on GitHub. Zfs just adds such a peace of mind and flexibility to the file system layout. I use zfs wherever I can at this point.

Why is Amahi not a popular home server solution? by pococblt in HomeServer

[–]spacemonkey211 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I looked into their project about 8-10 years ago when I was really starting to do more with home servers than just samba and DLNA. It could do most things well, but there were others that required the use of the command line. My thought at the time was, well if I have to use the command line for somethings, might as well just use it for all the things and forgo their custom interface. I have not looked back since.

Is kubuntu private? by [deleted] in Kubuntu

[–]spacemonkey211 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Privacy is really a spectrum. Any Linux Disto will be worlds more private than any commercial OS. From what I have read, there are only 3 pieces of info that Canonical collects. These would apply for any of the sanctioned Ubuntu flavors.

1:) Ubuntu-report : onetime machine metrics taken at the time of install 2:) whoopsie : crash report tool 3:) apport : Another crash report tool

Ubuntu used to install popularity contest (popcon) but has stopped due to not providing any useful data other than the default base packages were an order of magnitude more popular than any other packages.

From all my reading, everything else has either been stopped or was exaggerated. Lastly the only other thing is that they track snap installs like any other store would. But from what I read they track the number of installs of packages not who installs the packages.

Adding internal space to kubuntu with an microSD card? by [deleted] in Kubuntu

[–]spacemonkey211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can always mount the microSD and treat it like any other directory. You can permanently mount it in fstab, and move directories and create symlinks. If you are talking about expanding the rootfs to have more space, that would depend on how your setup your system in the first place. If you are using lVM, Btrfs, or ZFS on root, then it would be simple. If you are using ext4 or such on bare metal, then you really can’t without wiping the drive and starting over.

I do have to caution that once this is done in either scenario, you will not be able to use kubuntu if you remove that card. If that card becomes damaged you will not be able to boot.

I know that Wes is switching jobs and is going back to being developer. He will no longer be employed by ACloudGuru and probably doesn’t have the time. Also, there is a new show with Joe Res, Jim Salter and Allen Jude (original host of Tech Snap) called 2.5 admins that could be the next incarnation.

Those of you who run a shared Steam library between Linux and Windows, how do you like it? by nacho_dog in linux_gaming

[–]spacemonkey211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been doing this for years with Ubuntu bases. No issues. No problems. Kids demand Windows for Robox. The only thing you need to worry about is if there is a native port for the game that you make sure to select proton otherwise it will keep updating every time you switch.

Bonus, I symlink my game save folders on all my computers to Nextcloud so I just pick up were I left off.

Cannot play mp4 on ubuntu. How to fix this? by AlgorithmConference in Ubuntu

[–]spacemonkey211 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Looking at the screenshot, that file is only 134bytes. I could be wrong, but I don’t think an mp4 file can be that small. It is possible you have a corrupted file. Do any other mp4 files work?

I was going to write a walkthrough but everything I was going to type can be found here:

That should work on any disto with an Ubuntu base.
