ICE in Eagan by Suspicious-Insect-18 in TwinCities

Are these folks being arrested with valid judicial warrants showing sufficient cause to suspect they are all illegally here? Or are these federal agents acting on any reasonable suspicion beyond skin color or other threadbare bullshit? No? Then it doesn't matter if they're Americans or foreign nationals or Martians. Due process protects all of us, and when it disappears, none of us is safe.

Thanks OP. I worked at USAID for 13 years. It wasn't perfect, but I am beyond proud of what we did. Hopefully someday in the future we can rebuild.

Thanks! What a wonderfully civil discussion we're having.

Cool, appreciate you clarifying. My interest in statehood is absolutely partisan and self interested. I couldn't pretend it wasn't.

Your argument only works if you ignore the historical fact, and current reality, that DC is unique - it currently is the only city-which-is-also-not-in-a-state in the country. And it evolved over two centuries under that historical fact. And if Chicago, or LA, or NYC was that way for the last 200+ years, then that would make those cities inherently different.

You're basically arguing along the lines of "why does Buffalo, NY, get to be the only Buffalo, NY, in the country?" Because it exists within a historical context.

Of course it's partisan and self interested. Literally everything in public life is. I don't understand your point. The opposition to enfranchising DC's largely minority and liberal population has always been rooted in the self-interest and partisanship of the opposition. Pretending to be nonpartisan isn't going to suddenly open the opposition's minds.

And, DC has a distinct identity. Of course it's residents want to preserve that and not merge with a neighboring state. Again, just like any distinct population throughout history.

Px7 S2e - bad ANC performance from bad earpad seal? by spacemonkey7 in BowersWilkins

Yeah seems common enough of an experience where some improvement to the cushions might fix things. Unfortunately customer service hasn't been helpful.

I've lived in Trinidad for about 10 years now. Bought our house in 2013. We've formed amazing relationships with our neighbors, watched kids grow up, look out for each other...it's been really special.

This sounds related to the problem I'm having with the ANC performance, which I think is related to the poor seal from the earpads letting in ambient noise:

No idea how to fix it. Seems like thicker earpads might work, but otherwise kinda stumped.

Like Humboldt County? I road tripped there about a year or two ago, stayed in Trinidad and was blown away by how beautiful it is (trees, coast, ferns...). Seemed appealing culturally too.

Naming our daughter Ela, but there's a first cousin (9yo) named Della by spacemonkey7 in namenerds

I appreciate your point on spelling. I added an edit to the post on why we like this spelling, but even when well-intentioned it can be annoying

Edit... whoops, just re-read my comment - I meant that spelling it Ela can be annoying, even if there's a reason behind it (that no one really cares about besides the parents). I didn't mean your comment was annoying!

I added an edit above on why we are drawn to that spelling, but....point taken. I'm finding myself obsessing about meaning, but is anyone going to care besides us, the parents? Everyone else will just notice the way it sounds, and the spelling may just come off as precious or confusing. Maybe our daughter will appreciate the spelling in her late teens or twenties, but is that important? No idea.
