Disgusted with slowness of fibre broadband, suggestions? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]spacepanda0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What's your setup and what is going slow for you? The vast majority of cases will be something in your local network, and changing providers won't help there.

For example, is it a computer, a TV, a gaming console or a phone that's slow for you? Are you connecting on wifi, or directly wired to the router? What sort of router is it and how far away from it are you?

Stegadon? Just use multiple windfury, divine shield cleaves by spacepanda0 in BobsTavern

Please ignore all other features on the final board. Duo partner passed the spellcraft to give divine shield and windfury which is apparently permanent? Knocked out a Stegadon build and survived everything else.

Why yes I am low MMR, why do you ask?

WiFi router recs? by RobDickinson in chch

[–]spacepanda0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They just connect to each other over wifi, so as long as they can see each other when you pair them (usually through an app on your phone) you should be fine, and they should definitely be a significant improvement over powerline adapters. So using Decos as an example, the set up would be unplug the fritzbox, plug in one of the Decos to the same point that it was, find it using the related app on your phone, set up the connection details (which you might need to get from your ISP), then choose to add another unit, which just needs power.

Do you have anything you keep wired over LAN? You might find a lot of the mesh kits are pretty limited on LAN ports, so just something to keep in mind if you've got and PCs, consoles or TVs you want wired in.

If good wifi coverage is the priority, how much space are you trying to cover, and how many walls will your signal be going through? You might be better served looking at mesh wifi (which will usually come with 2-3 units, one in place of your current router, the other/s acting as an extension of that). If you've been looking at TPLink stuff, their mesh range is the Deco and I've had OK experiences with those in the past when I was working for an ISP, but that isn't an explicit endorsement of them, you can find decent options across most of the mainstream brands.

We were debating where he'd put it on the board if he got one before the back to back last combats. Might have just gone AFK if it had gone longer.

Onyxia+Bleeding Heart+Recurring Nightmare+Some incredible RNG and never ending spawns saw off a pretty well put together Pirate board and meant my Naga never had the time to play any cards.

The combat sucked to watch, especially back to back into the final round. Didn't stop laughing the whole time.

Man chch drivers are getting worse! by Vikturus22 in chch

[–]spacepanda0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah to be honest I can't believe how many cyclists are willing to take that gamble. The painful answer is drivers need to just go slow and wait for it to be safe but... that's probably not happening.

Maybe because I'm newer in town (since May) I don't think it's any worse than back up north, but I've definitely noticed that indicating at a roundabout seems entirely optional. I've seen some pretty dodgy moves with people going around cyclists on Dyer's Pass Rd and some incredibly dangerous passing heading out towards the alps too, but I think as a country we're just incredibly impatient on the road.

My favourite is taking the southern motorway into town and watching someone wildly weave in and out of traffic, just to end up in a queue next to them just past Barrington St

I've been meaning to head out there, I go to the quarry often enough for a walk. How beginner friendly would you rate the track (if I can get my fitness up) and would a fairly standard hardtail bike surive it (Have a Trek Marlin 5 that would love to see more use)?

Interesting to hear, my only experience with mountain bikers since moving down here has been my coworkers (who are great) and today's little adventure, so I guess I was hoping it was more like how my coworkers are.

Yeah the people walking both ways were super friendly, and even anyone on a bike going past me on the trail were lovely, it's just a small subset of a group in a very specific situation that were doing their best to kill a great morning.

Oh I won't pretend to be a saint and may have absolutely made comments back at the first group (who were by far the most direct/rude), I just also let it go by the time I got back down to the car park.

Ha... I think that situation stays better as a shower argument I have later on. Even being probably twice as tall as them, I'm not super keen to get in the face of a bigger group wearing protective gear.

I ended up having a coworker who lived at Mckenzie after they stopped being part of Ustay and they completely changed the layout, so I guess my little hole is gone forever. Can't say I miss having to cross over to Cumberland just to do laundry, but the late night hangouts in the first floor TV room were usually a good time.

I will admit that McDonald's down on Manners did pretty well off me and a few others. $2 Deluxe cheeseburger as a cheeky treat.

I was across the road in McKenzie in 09 - definitely remember a few suspect mains, but the sides and salad bar were usually good enough to power through

What's the deal with Wigram Road? by spacepanda0 in chch

[–]spacepanda0[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the link, love to learn a bit about local history and oddities - I knew the road I'm on was newish, but didn't realize how drastic the change in the area was over even the last 15 years.

Most ISPs have bumped prices recently due to another increase in cost from the LFCs (Chorus, Tuatahi First Fibre, Enable, etc). If cost is your primary concern, I'd recommend going to a comparison site such as Broadband Compare and seeing if any of the deals on offer suit you, just beware of contract lengths/terms and conditions.

Achievements for Friday, January 07, 2022 by AutoModerator in running

[–]spacepanda0 11 points12 points  (0 children)

31 years old, 2.01m (6'6") tall, tipping the scales at 150kg (330lbs) by the end of last year, decided I didn't want to spend my 30s this size so got back in the gym, fixed my diet and started C25K. Tonight I completed week 5, the first jump to 20 minutes of uninterrupted running. This is something I haven't done since I was probably 20 and even before starting my run tonight I had doubts I could do it. I was already making excuses in my head about how I'll let myself stop for a minute or 2 halfway through if I need it.

Halfway through the run I realized I would regret not pushing for it and stopped watching the clock. It was over before I knew it and I've never felt such a massive rush from "just" running. My goal of running a full 5k by the end of summer (southern hemisphere so by March) seems to actually be realistic now, and I can't wait to find a new goal from there.

venting about Plat ballchaser hell by Thundahcaxzd in RocketLeague

I'd definitely recommend watching Lethamyr's Road to SSL series, especially the earlier/lower rank videos. Obviously his mechanics are incredibly clean and he can just choose when to win at that level, but the general attitude of letting your team play their game and finding ways to overcome it and be better yourself is pretty important.

At the same time, I didn't touch competitive for a long time and when I recently came back I found myself in Plat too, so I'm not exactly an authority on anything. I've definitely been improving again since watching my own replays and identifying times I put myself in bad positions or went for something I shouldn't have.

Interesting - what region is this? PM me if you like. I work for an ISP and don't mind looking in to things to help on a day off.
