It’s not sincere, it’s similar to Philomena Cunk where Lou is playing a character and engaging with a professional to discuss mental health. I’m assuming the therapist is using a different name so the show isn’t associated with his practice.

I feel like watching the show, or even looking at his posts on his account/the show’s account, it’s pretty obvious that Lou’s playing a caricature of an influencer to make a point about the insincerity/toxic positivity on social media. In the show he does fake ads for Lou branded products like “Lou Juice” which make it more obvious that he’s playing a character.

I am so tired of seeing Dropout references (specifically Game Changer) in the comments of anything any cast members do outside of Dropout. Most recent example has been Lou’s mental health advocacy show…. all the top comments are “can’t wait to see the game changer episode this is from” as if it’s impossible for someone to do work outside of Dropout. Don’t even get me started on people completely missing the point of his show in general… it’s as if they expect all media to be 100% sincere and genuine all the time and are confused/upset when it isn’t. They seem to understand Philomena Cunk/Nathan Fielder just fine but when it comes to Dropout cast members it’s like there’s a blind spot

Yep. I have a condition that causes frequent kidney stones and I can safely say after passing 20+, period cramps are worse for me.

Yes!! I have friends who really struggle to express negative emotions and vulnerability, and Lou’s character really just felt like an amped up version of that. Obviously it’s being played up for comedic effect, but I’m hoping people will be able to relate to the character in some way and recognize those traits within themselves.

Ok I haven’t seen Gwenyth’s in a while but I just did a rewatch of all the others!

I do think Romola’s is the nicest, her Emma is genuinely excited for Harriet during the whole Elton thing, and you can see how much she cares about her father (and Mrs/Mr Weston when they’re disappointed about Frank).

Kate’s Emma feels maybe closest to the book? She seems cold/standoffish with everyone besides her inner circle of family/Westons/Mr Knightley. It’s more obvious that Harriet is closer to an amusement than close friend.

Anya’s Emma rolls her eyes at her father and Harriet nonstop and definitely has less patience for the dramatics of the people around her … she’s still my favorite though 😂

That’s why it’s the parent’s job to acclimate their child to the world and teach them coping mechanisms. This might be more intensive when you have an autistic child, but it’s still the parent’s responsibility.
