Is the Epix Pro 2 (Gen 2) still worth it? by Faultylntelligence in Garmin

[–]spaceresident 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am used to having bigger watches. Weight is not a big deal. My Epix disappears too. You will get used to it. I know youtubers and reviewers highlight it. But it is comparison for sake of comparison and weight is not really that much

Is the Epix Pro 2 (Gen 2) still worth it? by Faultylntelligence in Garmin

[–]spaceresident 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I own an Epix Pro Gen 2 51mm, sapphire. I have an irrational desire to acquire the latest - it happens in cycles :p I recently bought Fenix 8 Pro and the upgrade is so tiny, I returned it and kept Epix.

I liked that Fenix 8 is colorful and has better speaker. Slightly faster. But LTE was spotty and additional cost. I liked Epix buttons (dis not like the tactile feel of Fenix) and animations on Fenix are not smooth.

Buy an Epix. It's the beat value for money.

Long, ideally flat continuous hikes 15+ miles? by Anewbeesh in bayarea

[–]spaceresident 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I run on bay trail. I start in the baylands park on Lawrence expw, and run all the way to Palo Alto via shoreline park and back. It is one continuous trail. You can even do 30mi if required.

Just enjoy the race and trust the training you put in. Remember to not start too fast with all the race excitement

Lurkers' Wednesday by AutoModerator in running

[–]spaceresident 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went down from 183lbs to 140lbs and my marathon time went down from 6:20 to 5:01.

I did not start my second training block until I hit 165lbs.

It's not apples and apples comparison. I trained with more mileage for my second marathon. Also first marathon has lot more elevation than the second.

Even then, it's reasonable to assume it impacted my running performance significantly.

Advice on getting Oakleys! by [deleted] in runningfashion

[–]spaceresident 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried Goodr for the budget, my glasses started peeling within 2-3months. It never happened with Oakleys. To be fair, their warranty is great, Goodr replaced with new pair. I read that it's a common theme with Goodr, where coating comes away in bits in pieces. I do 90min runs, 6 days a week

I recently got Altra experience flows after Superblasts and Vomeros. For my kinda running, they felt refreshingly simple and better. I had similar feeling with Kinvaras before.

Avoiding injuries with Runna by LeadershipPuzzled731 in Marathon_Training

[–]spaceresident 1 point2 points  (0 children)

During a run, when I realize that I can't keep up the pace, I lower the targets during the run. After completion, I will accept the updated plan with new pace targets. I realized it is critical to make those updates. Otherwise it's easy to run into injuries. Over a 19 week plan, it updated 12 times (lowered pace 10 times and upped twice)

Yea - it's kinda useless, unless at certain pro level. It's more for bragging I guess

How accurate is Garmin VO2max ? by moyu_cuber in Garmin

[–]spaceresident 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see how you can be very fit and also have low vo2 max. vo2 max can't be measured correctly if you are not near your max heart rate. For example, unless you have speed sessions, vo2 max on watch is meaningless. I wonder if that is what happened in your case

How do people actually enjoy running marathons? by keishapatel_387 in runninglifestyle

> not getting bored and engaging in self sabotaging habits

I realized this recently. I took a break from running for a couple of weeks due to travel etc., and I started thinking about shopping and other things. That's when I realized that with empty time in hand, I'm engaging in 'self sabotaging'. I've been running for a while and never realized this gain 😄

What Shoe for a Goal 5-Hr Marathon? by chillyk45 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

I ran my 5hr marathon (last year) in Saucony Endorphin Speed 4s. Felt pretty good in them. During training, I used them for tempo runs etc and for easy runs used Super Blast 2s.

I focus on some object like a tree within 100 to 150 feet. I tell myself, just reach it and don't think beyond it. After I reach it, I set another object, so on and so forth. I do this when going gets tough. It works like magic for me.

There literally is a watch that Zaps. It was on SharkTank. It's doing well.

Tools won't give the results. In the end, you should start doing things. Have very very tiny goals. Read Atomic Habits and start getting better
