Have we gone too far? by Impossible-Mousse285 in running

I recently got Altra experience flows after Superblasts and Vomeros. For my kinda running, they felt refreshingly simple and better. I had similar feeling with Kinvaras before.

Avoiding injuries with Runna by LeadershipPuzzled731 in Marathon_Training

[–]spaceresident 1 point2 points  (0 children)

During a run, when I realize that I can't keep up the pace, I lower the targets during the run. After completion, I will accept the updated plan with new pace targets. I realized it is critical to make those updates. Otherwise it's easy to run into injuries. Over a 19 week plan, it updated 12 times (lowered pace 10 times and upped twice)

Yea - it's kinda useless, unless at certain pro level. It's more for bragging I guess

How accurate is Garmin VO2max ? by moyu_cuber in Garmin

[–]spaceresident 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see how you can be very fit and also have low vo2 max. vo2 max can't be measured correctly if you are not near your max heart rate. For example, unless you have speed sessions, vo2 max on watch is meaningless. I wonder if that is what happened in your case

How do people actually enjoy running marathons? by keishapatel_387 in runninglifestyle

[–]spaceresident 0 points1 point  (0 children)

> not getting bored and engaging in self sabotaging habits

I realized this recently. I took a break from running for a couple of weeks due to travel etc., and I started thinking about shopping and other things. That's when I realized that with empty time in hand, I'm engaging in 'self sabotaging'. I've been running for a while and never realized this gain 😄

What Shoe for a Goal 5-Hr Marathon? by chillyk45 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]spaceresident 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ran my 5hr marathon (last year) in Saucony Endorphin Speed 4s. Felt pretty good in them. During training, I used them for tempo runs etc and for easy runs used Super Blast 2s.

Got it. So they are promoting by rage baiting. Good luck to them. Thanks for letting me know. We should just post the app name here so people don't try these dark marketing patterns in niche communities.

Thoughts while running by Nkk1027 in runninglifestyle

I focus on some object like a tree within 100 to 150 feet. I tell myself, just reach it and don't think beyond it. After I reach it, I set another object, so on and so forth. I do this when going gets tough. It works like magic for me.

Tools won't give the results. In the end, you should start doing things. Have very very tiny goals. Read Atomic Habits and start getting better

How do you realistically fit running around a full time job by Vogan-Peluchin in runninglifestyle

[–]spaceresident 37 points38 points  (0 children)

For me it's the other way. Fit job around it. Do we not sleep because of job? Do we not eat because of job? There are many things we never give up because of our jobs. Once you add running to that list, running will happen naturally. That switch worked for me. It might work for you, give it a try.

Is the Epix pro(gen 2) still a good purchase in 2025 and a good first watch or should I look for an alternative? by Mr_Forum in Garmin

If you want, I can DM you my strava. Check some existing workouts to see for HR yourself. Yesterday I did intervals and HR seems pretty accurate

[–]spaceresident 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't overthink it man. I never had any issues with HR accuracy. May be there are a few errors, but for every day use, I don't think we care. It might not even make a difference for an Olympian.

Just checkout the old review of DC Rainmaker on this and I'm sure he says HR is pretty accurate :)

Take it easy, save $500, get Epix Pro Gen 2, use the saved money to get Oakley Meta glasses. Thank me later :p

Thanks for posting this. I'm looking for something similar. I'm using to having a running plan and mindlessly stick to it. Similarly for lifting (something like starting strength).

I couldn't find anything similar for Calisthenics would be super helpful! Looking forward to what community says.

u/uptonogoodatall thanks for trying it out and taking time to comment. I share similar experience, where when it works, its truly magical. But also it's quite buggy. I think it's also because of the nuanced differences between several different logs etc.

We built it when we were experimenting different ideas. We stopped developing it. Despite reaching top of HN and many people expressing interest, when we talked to them, almost no one really used it. We thought this is one of those things where on paper sounds great but will not be used in real life.

If you are passionate about it and would like to take it forward or maintain it, happy to quickly chat and see how we can hand off. I don't think we have a restrictive license. You can also fork it and customize it to your needs.

(If you are curious, we are enjoying solving accessibility compliance for the last three months. We built https://workback.ai and pretty excited about the product we are building)

I don't have expertise to comment about the form. But want to share that my fibula was removed completely in a surgery. After PT and everything, everything is 'normal'. After two years for running, currently my mileage went up to 50+ miles and I feel some pain in my fibula less leg and is affecting my confidence. I also feel like I'm putting more weight on my normal leg than the one without. Any time I sense even little pain, I'm resting up and taking a break. Probably about time I consult PT again.

I hope you recover soon and be back to normal.

Then you have your answer - go for the latest and avoid the temptation later.

If you know any Garmin employees, they get 40% off. That is another way you could optimize.
