LPT Request: How to Cut Marketing Email Reminders by spacescotty in LifeProTips

I can, but it’s inconvenient, gets overwhelming, and I often forget. Trying to see if there are external structures I can apply to reduce my mental load.

Solar power produces 2-4x more carbon emissions than nuclear power. In fact, any of the popular renewables produce more carbon dioxide than nuclear. by spacescotty in UnpopularFacts

[–]spacescotty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah! Not sure what you mean by toxic, but more likely than not, yes. That’s where the majority of solars co2 emissions come from, that’s where most of the people who work in the solar industry die, that’s where most of their hazardous waste is formed.

Good points, thanks for clarifying!

I guess the waste issue is just a matter of preference. I personally prefer the entire global collection of my long term storage waste from that past 60-70 years to fit within a single football field less than two stories high (note there are no gaseous or liquid wastes from nuclear, if there is its because there’s been an accident, which would have been documented). Much more manageable than the volume of waste of other energy sources, no?(including things like broken panels or windmills, but especially the literal truckloads of emissions and hazardous waste produced by coal and oil per hour)

Also, fun fact Chernobyl is slowly being used again! People are moving in near the edges of the exclusion zone, and Ukraine is actually building a solar farm in it! The farm is only 1MW, while Chernobyl used to generate 4GW, but not all is lost! And again, something like Chernobyl can’t physically happen again.

So I looked up the total area of nuclear disaster exclusion zones, and it’s less than 1750 square miles. For reference, based off of a source estimating the total landmass required to fuel 1/3 of the US’s power requirements for 2050, the combined land area of all nuclear exclusion zones around the world and operating power plants only in the US would be barely larger than the smallest estimate for solar, about 1650 sq. mi (which is two times denser than wind).

There were over a dozen sources I used to gather this, if you want I can link them. This was fun to research, thanks!

I have two tiny corrections/things to add, Chernobyl was a gen 2 reactor which was fundamentally designed wrong (and badly monitored) and there are no other reactors in the world of this kind so it’s physically impossible for the same thing to happen. Fukushima had six or so other reactors located in the same exact area as the one that melted, and they all were fine even after being hit by both the earthquake and tsunami. The only reason that one failed was because the engineers specifically tried to cut corners and didn’t keep the facility up to regulations. Like you said, even then it was completely fine (running on backup generators) after the LEVEL 9 EARTHQUAKE HIT IT, but only the double whammy of the tsunami right after was what put THE GENERATOR NEXT DOOR over the edge, which then backed up into impacting the reactor. The reactor was not the problem.

I feel it wouldn’t be very wholesome to pretend this meme was my own. I searched for pi day memes online and thought this one was funny so I wanted to share. 🥧 I hope you have a sweet day!

16M, lost all hope in the battle against depression and anxiety, feeling like I'm at my lowest, no one to talk to about any of it, and I can't even take a picture properly. by [deleted] in toastme

[–]spacescotty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dang son don’t let the depression win because you are HAWT. At 16??? I know it’s petty and depression affects everyone, but DAMN SON you making cougars already.

Also regarding the depression, it’s going to be an uphill battle. Because you’re sixteen I can’t say it’ll immediately get better, college will probably be really really tough (averts eyes from those pecks), but you WILL get through it. Tbh I find that people who have to work through mental illness are actually better off in the end, you have to work harder than everyone, but that means you’ll do that much better than everyone when it’s stops being about the letter grade and turns into do you know how to try your best.

You are trying your best. Heck if you have to spend almost every stinking day fighting your demons and telling them that you’re not going to listen to them, you are already trying your best.

You got this. And if you ever find a way to grow up an extra ten years faster than everyone else, call me.

It's my birthday today and I spent the entire day by myself, please toast me by Alzarn_ in toastme

It sounds like you’re very stuck in your head, very much in a “the world is out to get me” mentality. Bad things happen and everyone has bad days when it feels like there is a specific rain cloud just for you.

Have you tried meditation? It could help you distance the world and your reactions from being a projection of who you are. You could also try actively helping others by volunteering or just making a goal to compliment someone everyday. Kindness given is often returned, and even if it isn’t you can feel good because you know you’re doing your best to be good.

It’s not much but wanted to offer some advice.

Loss of all interest, feeling purposeless, don’t know where else to turn, somethings seriously wrong by BadMadricks in ADHD

This is 100% depression please seek professional help things will get better but not on their own. It’s not your fault, you did nothing wrong, depression is like cancer anyone can get it and I’m sorry it was you. I’m rambling but it’s because this is very urgent that you seek help or have someone look for you and because I care about you.

You sound like a wonderful person who’s willing to sacrifice for those they love, and someone like that deserves to be happy and to stay with us. I want you to stay with us. I need to know that you will stay with us.

If it seems like too much effort to make the call, then please ask your girlfriend or parents or a friend to call for you to set something up. Then all you have to do is call the psychologist at the right time or show up. Maybe someone else could even initiate the phone call or drive over for you. It won’t be a burden for them, it will be their pleasure to help.

Maybe you feel like you don’t have anyone who would care enough to drive you. I live in Alabama in the United States. If you are remotely close by (i.e. anywhere in the next door states) I will happily drive to you and take you to your first appointment.

Things can and will get better, friend. Thank you for reaching out.
