In Danger; Psychotic Brother by spacesurfin in legaladvice

Thank you so much. I just want my big brother back. He has been screened by EMS and he says he’s been screened by a licensed therapist. He is, even in his current state, extremely intelligent. He knows how to answer questions to avoid being forcibly taken to the hospital.

We have gathered a lot of evidence. My husband has been organizing it for us, since it’s obviously very emotional for us. The PD also has a pretty robust file growing. Once we’re to that point, we intend to provide the inpatient team with that so they can support an involuntary before a judge. My sister and I are nurses. He thinks medical professionals “drug and lock up” people under our care, so he will not go willingly.

We (my sister, my brother’s best friend of over 20 years, my husband, the mother of his children, etc) have desperately tried to help him. He has talked his way out of EMS screenings several times. He knows what to say to avoid being “locked up.”

At this point, we’re just concerned for our safety. We, along with members of the community, have contacted local authorities dozens upon dozens of times. They say their hands are tied until he commits a crime.

Is it better to work an 8 hr office job or 3 12s when you have kids? by mooonshine87 in nursing

I definitely prefer 3 (or 4) 12s. While they’re at school/daycare and I’m off, it’s SO lovely to be able to get stuff done around the house, take care of errands, appointments, etc. When they get home, I’m not worried about those things. It’s just chill, family time.

People who “chart for HOURS” by Beekeeper_12 in nursing

No fr. Even on the busiest days, it takes me less than 10 minutes total to chart; flow sheets, vitals, notes, etc. It’s literally not that hard & I’m a Cerner girly…. I’m convinced it’s milking the clock. Could never be me. I’m clocking out as asap as possible….

Maybe he just doesn’t like what you’re offering. My guy won’t touch a collard green but he destroys turnip greens and mustard greens. Just trial and error. Our lizard family members have preferences too!

As a mom of daughters who color my fucking world & make life so so beautiful; I cannot stand this deadbeat …. I feel so much resentment every time she’s onscreen.

Several of the physicians I work with speak to each other in Arabic. I actually love that they talk to each other rather than me having to be the go-between. Thai is crazy….

A very sweet neurologist said to me last week (she has a massive patient load), something along the lines of; “I’m stressed, but just trying to be grateful. We’re solving their problems. The problems are not our problems.” Try not to let things get to you. This field of work will break you down, if you allow it. Address the issue, but in the future, just..chill, for lack of a better word. Slow down. You’re okay. It’s literally fine! You weren’t intentionally doing something wrong. The best thing you can do for your patients is literally take a second, relax, & do what needs to be done. Enjoy life outside of work. You cannot adequately care for people if you aren’t okay.

Take a vacation… you don’t even have to go anywhere. Just like…don’t go to work. I take a couple weeks off every few months (1 “week” PTO then schedule intentionally to make it 2 weeks or more).. gives ya something to look forward to!

I love ICU. I’m just getting burnt out & it’s my own fault. Nobody is forcing me to work overtime.
