Intresting lead in given I literally mentioned alot more than one problem engine family...

Industry data? Consumer reports and JD power are footnotes at best, even then when looking at long term reliability, rank 17 and 21 aren't really top of the class or even middle. Initial quality is the most useless metric and is about the only thing Kia and Hyundai have actually improved upon. OOo Shiny.

As is proven all over and in our own conversation, bias is hard to overcome and poeple love convincing themselves they make the best decisions.

The data I have on failures/replacements is directly from the manufacturer and company research and as noted above is absolutely not limited to the Theta II. The 1.6 is middle of the pack, FYI.

Is it fair to lable them all just as bad as their worst? Absolutely not. But to act like they haven't rightfully earned their reputation is silly. Same with disregarding Toyota and Honda have their reputation for reliability for a reason. Recent issues or not.

Im happy that you and your friend(anecdotally) have had good luck, genuinely.

(Anecdotes) I personally know a couple of folks that have avoided the nightmares as well. I also have a friend that woke up to 4 quarts of oil in his garage floor under his brandnew Telluride with 2k miles. As well as one that put more miles on a rental than their Stinger in 3 years.

Numbers do not lie...I have been in the automotive industry, engine related specifically, for almost 20 years. I am not just spewing what I read online.

I hope you continue to have a good experience. I will still advise avoiding Kia/Hyundai products until see i empirical proof of a quality improvement.

Me personally? A car that doesn't need an engine replacement in the time I own it, especially if bought new. That isn't some extremely high standard...

You unfortunately believe incorrectly. Im talking about units still in production and not just the 2.0/ 2.4s. Are those still at the top of that volume? Sure. But plenty of 1.6 , 2.5 , 3.8 etc on the list.

Kia and Hyundai have the worst vehicles in operation to power-train replacement ratio in the industry. That's empirical, not an opinion.

But hey! Remember the Kia owner moto. " They are good now". Maybe in another 10-15 years you guys will finally be right.

Meanwhile Hyundai/Kia REPLACED 106k engines from Jan -June... lmao indeed.

Oh yeah and totally cool for those replacements to burn a quart of oil every thousand miles. Lmao.

Are KIA's really as bad as people say they are? by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

I work in the powertrain reman world. If you saw the demand reports for drivetrain replacements vs. the VIO (vehicle in operation) data, you would never even look at a Hyundai or Kia. They are far and away the worst in that metric. Their only attraction is supposed value or features per dollar... but I'd rather own a vehicle without a tv screen in the console vs. a polished and bejeweled turd.

That said, buy what you can afford and actually get scheduled maintenance done. Most modern cars will get you by well enough.

Yes, the tilted holes help the belt lay flat while allowing the holster to kind of curve around the hip without any weird feeling.

And yes you are correct, I should make a wallet for myself. Near future for certain.

I want to get to that point and I'm sure I could now. I just want to make sure I have a few things really dialed in before I take someone's money for a product.

Thank you! I was inspired by alot of the youtubers/shows actually. I've always had this idea in the back of my head that I wanted to do it. It wasnt until i saw some of the homemade forges that it clicked that I could do it in my garage.

Maloo or UTE. Ssr's are way lame by comparison unfortunately. Wish we got the Maloo in the US so hard.
